I think they're great!

The first time I saw the one near the bus stop, I thought somebody had moved it from North Cross Road!

But apparently they are concreted to the pavement.

The woman who has the silver jewellery stall in the market is most upset about the seat because it is opposite her stall and she says people sit on it and eat.

I don't understand why this should affect her, as there is loads of room between the seat and her stall. If anything, I would have thought it might have encouraged more custom from the people eating, as they can peruse her jewellery from afar whilst having their lunch :)

Yes they've been funded by East Dulwich ward councillors allocating some of our devolved capital Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding.

Cllr Charlie Smith came up with the idea Cllr Rosie Shimell and I supported it and have done much of the councillor leg work to make them happen.

I hope they will be maintained. It is inevitable that they will get tagged, unfortunately. Is it possible to get Southwark to work with POSos or others to report any vandalism? Could they be painted with a varnish that makes it easier for grime and paint to be removed easily?

Nor me - I would have thought it would have benefited her business if anything - but she was quite vociferous in her objection .......

That?s just what I think about seating outside cafes in LL

It's a permanent cover, surely, as in under an archway or something?

And presumably can't be in a residential area?

I saw a pissed-up woman one evening sprawled on the bench by th co-op chemists, beer bottle in hand, same brand broken bottle under bench with beer and broken glass strewn around, fag in hand slowly burning to the root while she slumped in a stupor.

Benches are for everyone - hoorah !

Unlikely as they?re funded by CGS funding for East Dulwich ward

    • I know - we have been here lots of times since it first opened,  which is why we were disappointed that it was closed at a time it was supposed to be open, but with no notice to say why! I guess we will just  have to ask the reason at our next visit, but I'm not sure we will risk Saturday lunchtime again unless we find the closure  was an unavoidable one off ....
    • Nope. I don’t have this wrong. I’ve tried to put my point across respectfully, without resorting to personal, angry insults. And all my colleagues agree that the BBC got this right in its condemnation.    All you see is confirmation bias.    If you don’t realise that, then you’re part of the problem.
    • We have always gone during the week at lunch time - great place and good value. Husband has been several times on his own and owner knows his first name. I could not go one time for some reason and she sent him home with some spring rolls (free)
