ITV news did a piece the other day about football archives. I only caught a bit of it but just in time to see Dulwich Hamlet v Nigeria. I don't know what year it was but there must have been 20-30 thousand people at it. DH won 1-0.

I just HAD to google this. Here's what I found. Not quite 20 - 30,000 but the article writes about numbers of 10,000 and 13,000 - which is not insignificant. Thanks Doc.

It was September 1949 and the article suggests a crowd of 18,000 for the match at Dulwich Hamlet.

18,000, 20,000, or 30,000...I am trying to imagine how far those sort of numbers would stretch at CH! I'd have loved to have been at those games. The largest DH game I've attended has had figures of touching 3,000 (I think)and that felt massive to me. Thanks dc (and Doc).

Yes this game had a bit of everything - bumpy pitch, strong winds, penalty save from Phil in the first half, Hamlet took the lead early in second half, terrible second penalty decision given against us leading to their equaliser, Carew sent off for protesting, then Assistant Manager sent off, then Manager Gav sent off a bit later and then a last minute winner!

I wasn't actually there either Otta, a friend texted me the results with the comment "cracking game". I didn't know it had been so exciting and am gutted I didn't go also.

I too am beginning to wish I'd gone, and despite all the drama theyre still at the top. Let's hope they can keep playing the way they have been.
