Hi there

I have a 1 year old, and now the weather is getting warmer and he is fast growing out of his sleeping bag, I'm wondering how to best introduce the blanket?

My concern is that he will invariably kick off the blanket, and then he might get cold during the night...

What does everyone do? I realise my baby can't be in a sleeping bag forever...

Just use summer ones for when it is warmer and a cellular blanket or equivalent(that they will throw off but will be warm enough anyway) when it is boiling!

I stop the sleeping bags when getting ready to change to a bed. My general rule of thumb is when they figure out how to open the bag it is time to move to a duvet. This has been around 2 for both of my kids.

We had the same problem and now have found a compromise i.e. sheet sleeping bag, but don't zip it up at the bottom so that he can move around in the night and stand in his cot if he wants to (he is now 19 months and is quite big for his age)....it works for us so might be worth a try and it seems to stop him getting cold in the night...

I'm another big fan of the summer sleeping bags.

I believe growbag does two different weights for summer, 1 tog & 0.5 for those really hot nights. Alternatively you could try one of these http://www.merinokids.co.uk/shop/babysleepbags.html . We bought a summer weight one, which saw our oldest child (and now younger) through the past few years, so although it is more expensive than a growbag, it works out cheaper as you don't need the two different weights.

We've just got some cute Aden and Anais ones in stock - they're the lightest I have come across as are made out of a soft cotton muslin.

My daughter has been in sleeping bags since birth. We just moved her out of them a few nights ago. Its been fine, she's 2 years and 3 months. Last year she slept through summer in a 1 tog whilst naked. I never thought we'd get her out of the bag, she normally wakes when she knows she doesn't have it on but its been absolutely fine. No advice really.

Why not try very thin sleeping bag with no PJ's?

    • Hi! I recently came across the website of Dulwich Chess Club. I emailed them, but never received a response. The site (and the information on it) feels a bit dated... Does anyone know if this club is still active? And if yes, do you know when and were is the club currently meeting? Many thanks!!

    • Hello All, I'm starting a fun, online Philosophy class for kids - designed to spark curiosity, build critical thinking, and create space for big conversations! 🧠 What is it? Each week, we'll explore a fascinating question like: What makes something fair? Can animals think like humans? What is truth, and how do we know it? Using stories, games, and open discussion, kids will learn how to ask great questions, listen respectfully, and express their own ideas with confidence. No prior knowledge needed - just imagination! 💻 How it works: 1-hour sessions on Saturdays at 2pm.  Hosted online via Zoom (more information on this will be given if you choose to sign up).  Small group sizes to keep things personal and interactive. £15 per session (per child). 🎓 A bit about me: My name is Connor, and I'm a recent philosophy graduate. I'm passionate about helping kids discover the joy of thinking deeply and creatively. Philosophy isn't about getting the "right" answer - it's about learning to explore ideas in thoughtful and respectful ways. I believe every child is a philosopher at heart!  📩 Interested? Send me a direct message on here to sign up or ask any questions, or ask below! I'd love to hear from you. 🙂
