Sunflower76
Hi thereI have a 1 year old, and now the weather is getting warmer and he is fast growing out of his sleeping bag, I'm wondering how to best introduce the blanket? My concern is that he will invariably kick off the blanket, and then he might get cold during the night...What does everyone do? I realise my baby can't be in a sleeping bag forever...Mel Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17025-getting-baby-to-sleep-without-sleeping-bag/ Share on other sites

melbourne groover
Just use summer ones for when it is warmer and a cellular blanket or equivalent(that they will throw off but will be warm enough anyway) when it is boiling!I stop the sleeping bags when getting ready to change to a bed. My general rule of thumb is when they figure out how to open the bag it is time to move to a duvet. This has been around 2 for both of my kids. Moos
My 1st was in a bag till 3 and a half and then switched to a duvet with his big boy bed (& associated fanfare). Very easy transition. In summer he had .5 tog 'sheet' sleeping bags... really good, if annoyingly expensive for two bits of cotton and a zip. crystal7
Another vote for the sheet sleeping bag, got ours from Jo Jo. E (2) usually ends up at the opposite end of the cot to the one she goes to sleep at so not going to ditch them any time soon (I believe grobags go up to age 9...maybe a bit extreme?!). Lochie
We had the same problem and now have found a compromise i.e. sheet sleeping bag, but don't zip it up at the bottom so that he can move around in the night and stand in his cot if he wants to (he is now 19 months and is quite big for his age)....it works for us so might be worth a try and it seems to stop him getting cold in the night... savage
I'm another big fan of the summer sleeping bags. I believe growbag does two different weights for summer, 1 tog & 0.5 for those really hot nights. Alternatively you could try one of these http://www.merinokids.co.uk/shop/babysleepbags.html . We bought a summer weight one, which saw our oldest child (and now younger) through the past few years, so although it is more expensive than a growbag, it works out cheaper as you don't need the two different weights.Kate Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17025-getting-baby-to-sleep-without-sleeping-bag/#findComment-431826 Share on other sites
Pickle
We stuck with sleeping bags right through till they moved into "big" beds just before both were 3 years old. 1 tog were fine pretty much all the time, and we had one completely light weight one for really hot nights. GinaG3
My daughter has been in sleeping bags since birth. We just moved her out of them a few nights ago. Its been fine, she's 2 years and 3 months. Last year she slept through summer in a 1 tog whilst naked. I never thought we'd get her out of the bag, she normally wakes when she knows she doesn't have it on but its been absolutely fine. No advice really. Why not try very thin sleeping bag with no PJ's?
