Advice to stop odour from neighbouring flats

Hi all

I need some advice on how to stop odour from neighbouring flats coming into my flat. The smells seems to come mostly from the bathroom through the ventilation system (my bathroom doesn't have a window so I can't air it).

Any thoughts? And would a builder be able to help?

Do you have a sense of what's causing the smell - broken plumbing, damp, rubbish, lack of cleaning, people, for example? And does your own bathroom have a working extractor?

Bathroom has an extractor, but I am not sure is working properly.

The smells are cooking smells :), but they are pretty strong. I guess the ventilation/plumbing system in the whole block of flats (council block) may be a problem. I'm just not sure where to start to fix it..

If there's no boiler or anything other than steam than needs venting and you don't mind a steamy bathroom I'd seal off the vent with plastic sheet and gorilla tape.

Maxxi, that is my first step, I'm going to seal the vent temporarily and then replace it with one that has a shutter.
