(not sure if I've missed another thread, but)

I see they're installing yellow gates across the car park at the Grove, in place of the concrete blocks.

Does anyone know if this is just an attempt to "maintain the site properly", or are they actually going to do some work on the place?

So from what I have heard it?s the Maroush, which has a restaurant on the Edgware Road and a few others dotted around North London. They?re Lebanese and specialise in meze type dishes.

However, no information on planning portal and absolutely no press releases from the Dulwich Estate, so perhaps we should wait for further information? We all know how rumours end up on this forum. Queue exhibit A, Waitrose Etc

Louisa.

As those who attended the Dulwich Society meeting last year will know, there are less than 8 years left on the lease, and any prospective purchaser would need to secure a lease extension to make his/her investment worthwhile. Based on its previous comments the Dulwich Estate is not likely to agree to this so a Turkish, Lebanese, or any restaurant, is unlikely. The yellow gates are probably for additional security but there have been strong rumours that the car park will be used as a coach park when the new foundation school routes come into operation later in the year.
Not sure where SanaNE1 got his information, but I have also been told that the gates were installed at the Grove car park so it could be fitted out as a coach park for the foundation coaches later this year. Dulwich is miles from Maroush's normal stomping ground and with the current uncertainties in the restaurant industry, it would be a bold move to open a brand new venture in an untried area.

There's already a church right opposite - we've got enough trouble finding accommodation for real people, without building houses for our imaginary friends!

    • Nice to see the property is going to reopen with a Newish business, good luck to them.
    • Of course they do, watching cookery shows and buying cook books is a national pastime. However you raise a good point that some people claim they are time poor and end up eating out / takeaways as sometimes a quick macciedee is cheaper and easier than making a quick nutrious family meal.  However to put it in balance, not many people have the knowledge, confidence and time to cook Persian so good luck to team persepolis on this venture.
    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
