supergolden88
Need to get some birthday presents for my daughter (and all her friends) and would love some new book ideas. She is only now learning how to read (can sounds out simple words etc) but would like to get her some books that are enjoyable for me to read to her.We have been reading How to train your Dragon, Pippi, Clarice Bean etc. She still likes looking at pictures but I think is bored of very simplistic repetitive stories. Any ideas welcome Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17235-books-for-ages-5/ Share on other sites
BeccaL
The Daisy and the Trouble with... books by Kes Gray are brilliant - same character as previous picture books (Eat your Peas, etc) but big font so good for encouraging reading. Daisy is suitably mischief - gets into scrapes etc and is fun to read. Hope she enjoys them! sparkle
The Tiger That Came to Tea is a fab book- it is a picture book, but is written very well (by Judith Kerr). I've happily read it many a time!As for chapter books mine really enjoyed The Faraway Tree- an adventure in every chapter! Is a bit old fashioned and maybe not the best written(?) but fun stories, and the chapters are short enough to keep a 5 year old interested. Gubodge
The Worst Witch books, George's Marvellous Medicine, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Borrowers have all gone down well here.
