Hi,

I'm looking to see if there's anyone out there who'd like to become film buddies.

I'm mainly into foreign, arthouse and classic film (so it'd be regular pilgrimages to the NFT, the ICA, the Ritzy in Brixton, the Curzon cinemas, etc). If there are any manic film buffs out there who fancy the idea of meeting up regularly to see a film and maybe discussing it afterwards over a beer or a coffee, please get in touch.

Hi carter

We've been talking about this in the Green and Blue Book Club on the forum. A couple of us went to Roxy Bar and screen in Borough High Street which was good. We've been talking about how we could recreate the atmosphere and environment for viewing and discussing films that we enjoy while discussing books at Grren and Blue. It would be great if there was a Roxy type venue in ED but we have had to venture further afield. There is also Whirled Art in Loughborough Junciton but haven't got round to checking that out yet.

Alec

Thanks to all who've responded.

I've PM'd Ms B, lisucia, PSJ, siousxiesue, plus a few others who have expressed an interest in this.

I'm looking to arrange a get-together in one of the locals to discuss upcoming releases etc one evening either w/c 6th June or the following week. I'll post details here once a date's been set so if anyone is interested in joining in, they can either PM me, leave a message on here or just pitch up on the night.

CHANGE OF VENUE

It turns out that there's a quiz night on Thursday's at the Plough, so I've instead reserved an area at the left-side rear of The Vale (opposite East Dulwich station). Same night, same time. Look for the array of sofas, or ask at the bar if unsure whereabouts in the pub we're based. Hope to see you all there.

I'll PM all those who have expressed an interest to inform them.

    • They'd been there for days but I hadn't tied them to this thread. Nice work, it was bugging me!
    • Off topic, but when I was a kid in Streatham, long ago, apart from the milkman (rarely if ever milkwoman),  who also delivered yoghurt - very exotic - in little glass jars, we also had regular deliveries of coal, bread and cheesecakes (not the kind we know now, they had coconut on top), fruit and veg,  and paraffin (both pink and blue). I'm not entirely sure we have lost "something amazing" by buying milk in shops. The glass bottles were left on the doorstep and the metallic tops were pecked through by birds getting at the cream/milk. Or else the bottles were nicked.  And then there was the rag and bone man.... bell and horse and cart, just like Steptoe. God I'm old. We didn't have supermarket deliveries. We didn't have supermarkets. I remember the first supermarket opening in Streatham. It  was quite amazing having to walk round and  put your own shopping in a basket. As you were ..... Sorry OP and admin.
    • Yep, I hear you. Been waiting for modern milkman to these parts and plan to try them out. I still remember Dennis, our Egg-man, from my childhood, who used to deliver dozens in his Citroen 2C and came to collect the boxes the following week. Happy Days.
    • I always feel we lost something amazing when we moved away from home milk delivery with glass bottles using electric floats to driving to supermarkets and buying milk in plastic bottles. Hindsight says we should have valued the good old milky more
