Can anyone recommend any play groups or activities to take a 2.5 year old to on Thursday mornings? Ideally I would like to tire her out ready for a good nap post-lunch. Needs to be somewhere where I can also bring new baby.

I have been trying to find the link from the Southwark website for their activities leaflets (called 'What's On' or something like that?) but have failed. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Free activities or classes?

Tumbletots is on at red post hill on Thursday mornings. You can bring a baby there (I do - either in a sling or sitting watching from the side in her pram)

I like Little Bubbles classes too - http://www.littlebubbles.com/

There is bound to be a Bookstart session on a Thursday http://www.southwark.gov.uk/events/event/904/

One O'Clock clubs are always an option too.

Good luck tiring your 2.5 year old out!!

The soft play at Peckham Rye is good for tiring them out although a bit frustrating if they can't climb up to the top. Worth a try though. If you go at 9.30am you get until 10.50 for ?2. It's not too manic at that time either and the cafe's not bad.

Yes I do the same. Baby now seems to want to participate :)

  • 3 months later...

Great, thanks.

Also interested to know if anyone's been to one at Rye Oak school as that's slightly nearer us and I think they have one on Fridays. I don't really know what's involved (my 14 month old may be a bit young?) but am just checking everything out as the Autumn stretches out in front of us!

We've tried to go to the Rye Oak one a couple of times but it was full. The lady at reception said you need to arrive early as it's always very busy. There's also a playgroup at Goose Green Centre from 10-11:30am on Thursday, think it's ?1.50 entry.
I do tumble tots 9.30 with my 1 year old and 10.30 with my 2.5 year old...have often wondered if any of the other people there are on the EDF. I'm usually frantically trying to stop them going round the wrong way raher than chat but it would be nice to put some names to faces! :) were any other edf mums there today?
Bookstart yesterday at the albrighton centre was really lovely- loads of toys, books, big soft toys. It's in a clean and safe space and the two ladies running it were really friendly. I'd recommend, will definitely be going again; seb got a lot out of it and even newborn Lex lay happily on a mat listening to stories/songs at the end. They've also got a big room at the back as a designated buggy park :) everyone was really laid back about sebs anarchistic tendencies, like running off to retrieve some kind of toy truck during the stories.

    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
