Neighbour burgled via the balcony

Last night a neighbour of mine was burgled. They accessed his flat though a door (admittedly unlocked) on a second floor balcony. Many of you will think he was naive to have left the door unlocked - and he's found out the same the hard way. They must have used ladders etc to get up there. And there was no way of knowing that it was unlocked from the ground so they were clearly going to some lengths to find unsecured properties.

Just wanted to post this as a warning to people with balconies - make sure your door is locked when not in use as a higher floor is no guarantee of security.

A neighbour in my block was also burgled last night. Similar circumstances, accessed the flat via the first floor balcony.

Totally agree Pollypops, we can't assume that being higher up affords any protection. We also live in a so called gated community, which tends to gives a false sense of security.

    • I highly recommend James. I had a few sets of lights (indoor and outdoor) that were no longer working. I texted him yesterday afternoon about the problematic lights, and he had fixed them all by this morning! Very happy that he investigated the issues and found fixes, rather than immediately saying I needed to replace everything, which was the standard response by others. I had other electricians (many who are recommended on this forum) that came round to inspect the work and told me I'd need to replace the lot for a substantial cost. Extremely professional and prompt with very reasonable pricing.
    • Indeed and possibly because with such an extensive wish list as stated, it will be a nigh on impossible to achieve a suitable property for that budget, outside the Village or Alleyn Park area. Even then, all wishes being equal, it would need  > £3m to get a suitable  property.  Compromise  would seem appropriate therefore , which suggests rating each "wish" in order of priority.
    • Once they start talking about ‘electric mini buses’  and ‘cargo bikes’  you can see which demographic this is aimed at. not positive at all
    • Well ain't many of us who can afford to live in SE22 anymore.
