OK. Seeing as ED has now turned into Nappy Valley, I thought this would be the best place to ask some sound advice for a special gift for my brother and (french) sister-in-law's baby due very soon.

I don't want to buy a ?65 petit bateau / brora cardi grown out of in 2 weeks (which they've asked for - the cardi not the make) but what I'd really like is something hand made and special - and original. I don't have children, so I really have no clue about what someone might like , but I'd like some input from mums as to what is special!

Thanks so much!

The best baby gifts I received included a swaddle blanket (a lifesaver for newborn fussiness, its the magic blanket that helps our baby sleep soundly, ours is by Summer, sells on Amazon, and has velcro fasteners) and a nice blanket from the White Company's baby range (Little White Company), which is super soft, washes easily, and still looks lovely 3-months in. I too received some expensive clothing (still not used) and appreciated those two gifts the most. Good luck!

Maisy has a best friend called Tallulah, and there are lots of stories and products. Maybe not the main present, but if your name or nickname is Tallulah its something they will remember is from you. Our first daughter loved the stories. Not all presents need to be for immediate use, they will be swamped with gifts and clothes for 0-6 months and may appreciate a little story book - can be used for bedtime stories from six months.

    • Correlation does not indicate causation. Maybe those who got themselves vaccinated did so because they were expecting, and were, out and about more, or were in already known risky circumstances, such as care homes. It is unlikely that the NHS would continue an expensive programme if fully analysed statistics contra indicated it
    • There is also Heber for primary? If you're open to a religious school, many of them now take children from all backgrounds of faith or non. I made a very very late primary application and got a list from Southwark who still had places and there was lots of primary schools.  Secondary, we got into Charter ED through going on the waiting list for an in year transfer.  Good luck
    • Foxes bring all sorts of 'gifts' to my garden. Looks like it might have been lost a while ago judging by the condition. If you know a Mr Swaine please let him know. There is nothing of value but I'll hold on to it just in case.
    • There's no logical explanation for that, surely? Or at least, not directly related to having had the vaccine? Unless  the over 65s choosing to be vaccinated were less robust than those who didn't, and so more likely to succumb to a flu variant which hadn't been included in the jab?
