Strawbs
HiSome advice if I may.. First bub due in october and I have to have a c-section so am tossing up getting an all in one change and bathing station, to bath baby in the sink first and then to the big bath combined with an on the top of the cot changer or a set of drawers with a change bit on top.. I am leaning towards the all in one but my other half isn't convinced.. Thanks!! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17571-bathing/ Share on other sites

Pickle
We started off bathing ours in the bathroom sink, then moved to the big bath. I have always struggled with a sore back (which was a lot worse after having babies) and would recommend having a changing mat up higher than bed/floor.We got drawers with a changing mat on top, and once we'd finished with the changing mat they had a wooden top that fitted over top so they look just like a normal chest of drawers now. Well worth the money IMO. In the early weeks I also had a "changing station" set up on the dining room table (changing mat, wipes, nappies etc.) so that I didn't constantly have to go upstairs - probably more important with #2 when there's another child to watch out for, but useful first time round too.P x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17571-bathing/#findComment-440689 Share on other sites
womanofdulwich
you can def bath in the kitchen sink to begin with, but you need a good size washing up bowl.in fact i did this when my son was 6 weeks old at grannies house, so dont rush into anything. new mother
Don't bathe in the kitchen sink! It is completely unhygienic. We had a changing station with bath incorporated, first time around, but found the bath feature unnecessary. My husband used to bathe with the lo plus shorts so i could photograph the early baths. Then we had a white 45 degree thing and finally a fun seat thing that the baby sits in till quite large. Second time around didn't bother with the bath aspect of the changing station.Good luck! It's very exciting! snowboarder
Tummy tubs rock! So easy, not slippery, my baby can even sit unassisted for a second while you grab a towel at 12 weeks old!And they look amazingly CUTE in them...look... Fuschia
I think babies look very vulnerable in ordinary plastic baby baths, way they flail around Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17571-bathing/#findComment-440768 Share on other sites
snowboarder
Yes F I agree - we were away this weekend so I popped baby in the bath with big brother - awful - slippery, couldn't wash him as needed 2 hands to hold him, he freaked out as obv felt unsafe! But he loves his tummy tub. Any bucket would do I suppose..?!? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17571-bathing/#findComment-440772 Share on other sites
womanofdulwich
of course any bucket would do,who has got room for all this paraphenalia? i found a washing up bowl was better for the first few weeks as the babys head/neck is so weak. snowboarder
Suppose the only thing with actual tummy tub is it seems to be weighted so it doesn't tip. And there's a non slip bit on the bottom. And a handy line to show you how best to fill it. But I'm a sucker for 'stuff'. It just lives in the bath whennot being used. anna_r
Our tummy tub is now the bath toy bucket. Both seemed to like it and it is very cute although I didn't find it as easy to use as you're supposed to be able to but I had complete wiggle worms for babies.
