New Controlled Parking Zone - north of E.Duwlich train tracks

Having lived in ED for 12 years. For 11 parking was totally fine.


But the last 12 months have been getting worse and worse.


Much as i hate the idea to pay to park (especially when you look at the costs of permits), i can't really see another option.


For me it definitely commuters, more recently builders (Charter, Alleyns, Jags. Then the squeeze from other parking schemes as they roll out.


Its set to get worse with the New Charter opening, and the health centre. Plus the extension of double yellow lines on every conrer in the area.


Over Xmas and New year it was absolutely fine (as it always is) - so the cars clogging the streets are clearly not residents.(Yes I appreciate some residents were away too, but a lot were home)


The Herne Hill Scheme seems to work a treat. How can we get one?


PS. I'm a cyclist, and a runner, I use the bus and train (but I like the option of using a car too when needed). Don't hate me.

There are normally several pay per hour parking spaces included in the scheme.


The borough wide scheme in chelsea works very well. It wouldnt work in southwark because of things like the huge size or the number of people that live out here but work close to the other end of the borough in the city etc.


But larger zones than one or two streets (e.g. whole council wards) where a permit is valid throughout might be more practical.

Doesn't that just encourage car use for short journeys?

What a joke of a decision.


I'm on a street within the new CPZ (this is the first I've heard of this, nothing sent to residents) and in 11 years living on this street, I've not had an issue parking. Obviously some people get into hysterics if they aren't within 3 metres of their front door.


The street has pressure from the station, the football ground, the Dominos pizza and currently as I look out has 3 skips on it, and 5 large vans. yet I can still see multiple parking spaces, this at 2:30pm on a Monday.


There are also multiple people on the street who have more than one car, one person has 3. and looking at the information sent in advance, there is a discount for multiple cars. Surely it should be the opposite, no?


If you have multiple cars on a terraced residential street, you should be paying way more.


I hope some common sense can prevail, but this is utter lunacy and merely adds cost to residents for the benefit of nobody.

    • Southwark and Lambeth may have some spaces but this is not the case of other London boroughs nearby particularly at secondary level. Also this is not just a London issue. There are many regions throughout the UK that have no school places available (eg Kent due to new housing developments, rural areas, Surrey, Guildford, Edinburgh etc). Just because you feel it doesn’t affect you, does not mean it’s right.  You also need to consider the proportion of foreign students in many of the private schools in the area which distorts the impression that local people can pay private school fees and suck up an additional £4-5k per child and per year. And sadly, the psychological and emotional impact on children is not even being discussed.
    • Step in a child’s shoes just for one moment and think what it would be like to have to move schools in the middle of the year away from your friends, teachers, community etc. due to a political stunt. I doubt the money will even go into education. The UK will be become the only European country to tax education. Primary schools have some capacity where I live but I have enquired and there are currently no places for secondary school where I live. Again, so easy to be smug and say we should have pre planned a potential outcome 5 years ago when you live in your £2-3m homes next to the best state schools in Dulwich (like Keir Starmer!)

    • Birth rate collapses sounds a bit like Armageddon.  It's a mixture of a decline following a bulge, where many schools had to increase intake, and families moving out of the capital due to high cost of housing.  Now that is an irony, that only wealthy families, many who can afford private schooling, can afford to live in many parts of London.
