Why does the Co-op never have any food on the shelves?

Yes but I think you misread my post Sue - if you look again you will see I was referring to the Sogim Pharmacy that used to be the Co-op Chemist (hence the crack about Brut) and not the Co-op that used to be Somerfield. I do do (no smutty puns Frank) my shopping in LL Co-op and I am a 'member' which I thought pretty pointless until I got ?40 worth of 'divvy'. ;-)

I'm a co-op member and I love it when they pay the membership money straight into my bank. I've had loyalty cards for other places in the past and got fed up with the useless paper vouchers they sent me, so didn't bother with them for very long.

I think the co-op membership one is pretty good, because I use their bank account and get money back for that too.

All the local stores always sell out the semi skimmed organic within a few hours, leaving surplus full fat non-organic. Organic milk is delivered mid morning and sells out (semi skimmed first) by the afternoon, so unless you live like a 1950s housewife, you are never go to be able to buy milk.

Can't they be bothered to adjust the stock, or isn't there enough semi skimmed organic milk being produced? This is not a trivial matter, it's about the Englishpersons ability to buy milk in the Co-op to put in their tea, and something should be done.

Are you lot mental? the Co-op is the best food store in East Dulwich... always well stocked and very helpful staff - that nutter who goes in there about 7ish most nights ranting about this and that is quite a laugh as well!

The Co-op is the best store in East Dulwich? Are you kidding? I've been in it twice and would never go back and the Forest Hill Road shop is dire.

tbf, I've had problems with the Waitrose store in Croydon shortly after it was converted from a Somerfield. The woman behind the fish counter, obviously Somerfield ex-staff, was reluctant to give me two knobs of butter and didn't wrapped the fish to the usual standard I was accustomed to.

Co-op & Waitrose owns their farms unlike most supermarkets.

Most of the Co-Op staff are friendly and helpful (in the Lordship Lane branch).

The branch was too small to sell whole lobsters.

I don't think Waitrose will want to take over the Co-op in LL due to its size. Where would the meat & fish counter go?

A better place for Waitrose is Rye Lane where once John Lewis had a presence.

Was in The Co-op earlier today. Looked at the Fish and meat but nearly all of it was Reduced

because it had reached it's Use By Date.

Quickly picked up a bag of New Potatoes only to find 'When I got home' they too had been reduced

because they had just 2 days to their Best By Date.

There is virtually nothing fresh in that store.

Also Bought a pint of Milk. 55p

All the major supermarkets charge 48p

All you Members recieving Divvy paid into your accounts are certainly paying for it.

I normally shop at Tescos. The prices are cheaper and my mother and I get regular vouchers (?30-?40+ p.a.)

that can be spent on anything in store and also 5p off every litre of petrol when we spend ?50.00+

Yeh but how much does it cost you in petrol to go to Tesco? The Co-op is very convenient and depending on where you live, you don't need a car to get there (just a shopping trolley in my case :)) )

And how big is your car, if you spend ?50+ on petrol each time you fill it up there? My little Micra wouldn't take that much even if it was empty!

I don't spend ?50.00 on petrol.

I take my 86 year old mum shopping each week and if we spend ?50 in store between us on our weekly shop,

I get 5p off every litre of petrol I buy. and the normal price is no dearer than most garages.

and still get points on our club card (which we share) which add up so we get more vouchers to spend.

My mother lives in Downham so we normally go to Beckenham.. But sometimes she fancies

a little ride around so we do go to Old Kent Rd or Surrey Keys.

After all she often pays to top up the car. :)

Is this a record? I bought a small bottle of premium orange juice in the store today (23 June). Only when it hissed at me when I opened it did I notice the Use By date was 7 June... In the last few months, I've heard lots of reports of stale food being sold in this dismal store, so it's the last time I'll be shopping there. How long will it be before Waitrose develop a Local or Metro brand, and move into Lordship Lane?

Double G, if you want to smash sell-by date records I challenge you to pop into the Forest Hill Rd branch as two week old perishables is about as fresh as it gets there.

Bring on The Waitrose.. Wasn't there a programme recently where some local types formed a non-Co-op co-operative..? Perhaps we should take control and set up our own Waitrose commune. I wanna work the tills, I have always been drawn to that as a career but never had the guts to Just Do It.

I wouldn't say I 'know' any regulars and I can also gladly say my days working in a supermarket are well behind me... At the end of the day it's an alright shop, nothing special, but certainly nothing for people to go mental about! The staff, well the ones I can understand, are always quite helpful and it's a good little shop to pop in on the way home after work for some reduced bits and pieces...

This is goignt o sound awful, but some times all you wantis some salmon and cream cheese and some prosecco .. ok maybe some parma ham too. But my lovely sunday afternoon was nearly runined as I had to spend half and hour traipsing all over the place to find something for the basket!
