Finally, a book about South London
goosey-goosey replied to The Dulwich Raider's topic in The Lounge
Always enjoyed your posts, DR. Good luck with the book sales. And here's hoping there are still enough local boozers around here for Volume II in a few years' time. :-) -
Southwark Council Transport Planning Consultation
goosey-goosey replied to nxjen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I also can't select all of the options in the survey. I've asked Southwark to correct this and let me know when they've done so. I'll report back when (or if, more like) I hear back. -
Really useful. Thanks, JohnL and hpsaucey.

Does anyone have any insights into shared ownership? The process, the pitfalls, specific housing associations to avoid, tips, etc. A friend is exploring the possibilities of co-owning a house (in North London - no, really :-0). She has found a potential property but has no experience of the process and whether to trust the dreadful reviews of the housing association, Clarion. I said I'd tap into the collective wisdom that is the EDF. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Anyone else out of water??
goosey-goosey replied to Houseoflego's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sounds like most people now have their water back. Phew! For a moment there, I thought Brexit had started early. -
Rye Lane closed Jan 2019 to Apr 2020
goosey-goosey replied to rollflick's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And when will work start on the Southwark Spine, the new north-south cycle route that will run down to and through the Bellenden area? Gridlock beckons. Thanks for the alert, rollflick. -
Another strong recommendation for Paine and Hunter. Every few years, when I need new specs, I hunt all over London but return to them and find the perfect pair. Friendly and v knowledgeable staff too.

Are the letters clearer with or without it? With or without? With? Or without? :-) Seriously, it might be diabetes. Get your eyes checked.

Recommendation: Carpet Cleaning Services - Bradley O'Reilly
goosey-goosey replied to CameronMac's topic in Reviews
Bradley's just cleaned our carpets too. Excellent service - very professional and friendly. Highly recommended. -

We had a Unicef campaigner knock on the door just after the election telly bash started this evening (so rather late). He wasn't aggresive at all.

Squatters behind Maudsley hospital
goosey-goosey replied to sinead1994's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ah, squatters. That would explain the "Quit your job" banner hanging from a window near there. I quite like that advice. -

Where can I get a sewing machine repaired?
goosey-goosey replied to flocker spotter's topic in Request a Tradesperson
See http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1045328 Depending on where you live, flocker spotter, the curious sewing machine shop at the top of Rye Lane might be a good bet. -
That's a good 'un, RPC. Here's George Peele from the sixteenth century. What Thing Is Love What thing is love? for sure love is a thing. It is a prick, it is a sting, It is a pretty, pretty thing; It is a fire, it is a coal, Whose flame creeps in at every hole; And as my wit doth best devise, Love's dwelling is in ladies' eyes, From whence do glance love's piercing darts, That make such holes into our hearts; And all the world herein accord, Love is a great and mighty lord; And when he list to mount so high, With Venus he in heaven doth lie, And evermore hath been a god, Since Mars and she played even and odd.

Advice for nervous new cyclist
goosey-goosey replied to guzzler's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Another recommendation for the free cycle training courses run by Southwark, as well as other boroughs. Six months ago I got two individual, 3-hour sessions (yes, 3 hours!) with an expert instructor who was terrific. They certainly helped me get back into the saddle for my daily commute. A tip: I've heard you can register for the courses not only with your home address but also (legitimately) with your work address so, if you commute to another borough, you could get up to 12 hours of private lessons for free! -
I just wanted to recommend Bastek Interiors for the excellent job they did with our new bathroom. It was a complete refurbishment and we wanted a very modern, sleek look. Sebastian and his team's attention to detail and understanding of design, building and plumbing meant we got exactly what we wanted - our dream bathroom. I can't recommend this local company highly enough. http://www.bastekinteriors.co.uk/

Can anyone recommend a financial advisor with expertise in managing pensions and investments, and planning for retirement? Most of the recommendations I've seen here are for advice with mortgages. Thanks in advance.

HSBC bank building in Lordship Lane
goosey-goosey replied to Chief's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We use NVs. Not such good news for us. The HSBC site is surely smaller than their current premises and there's no (or little) parking by comparison. Pity our poor pussy. -
East Dulwich Grove crossing - dangerous drivers!
goosey-goosey replied to Lolamaxx's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm probably missing something but why can't they add traffic lights with a pedestrian signal at that end of East Dulwich Grove?
