Probably really stupid question, given that large proportions of the world's population manage in much greater heat, but I was getting worried as I saw the thermometer in LO's room climb higher & higher... The growegg is flashing red at me & we are well outside of the recommended 18degree zone. I've got all the windows open to get some draft going while the blinds on his room are down to keep sun out. Room isn't ver big but high ceilings, which is why I didn't think a small fan would do much. How is everyone else coping and keeping their LO safe?

This time last year during a heat wave i was at the Arlington Centre health check and the mum in front of me was absolutely frantic.

Her daughter hadn't slept in five days with the heat and consequently nor had she. Only advice forthcoming was as above though. Keep air moving, open windows, tepid baths etc.

I saw her in sainsburys a couple of weeks later post heat wave and the wild eyed creature had become a normal woman again, so don't worry normal service will always resume and we rarely have long heat waves in this country (in fact I think this one finishes tonight?).

I'm quite lucky in that the heat seems to make the mocklet drowsy.

Getting annoyed with the inaccurate weather forecast. It was supposed to rain/storm last night at 7pm....10pm, nothing. Was hoping it would do something overnight to break this heat, but up this morning and nothing......then the local forecast said rain by lunchtime. Looking out the window.....just grey, no impending storm that's for sure. Poor kiddies rooms are still up near the 30 degrees. They are both knackered and sweaty and eggy! Come on RAIN!

Can you still get lightening coming down your TV ariel and blowing things up? :) I remember as a kid my mum made us turn off the tele and stand away from the windows! Not even sure we use a TV ariel these days, now its all digital, like.

Sod it I'm keeping 60 minute make over on.

Baby monitor is still flashing 27degC and has been since yesterday! Whatever the temp it definitely feels cooler so I'll continue to ignore it as before.

Gussy - hope you and your electrical ware made it through the storm! Was the makeover any good? I often think they overdo it with patterned wallpaper on every wall! (sorry mod for digressing, again)

Thanks srisky I survived! *pictures self sitting on sofa with smoke and soot coming out of ears* As for 60MM its a terrible terrible show - like you say, they do the same awful wallpaper time and time again. They totally ruin peoples house, but I can't help watching it.

As for temperatures, just got baby from nap and bust open windows and its now gone down to 23 degrees......toddlers room with closed door and tiny bit open window is still 28 degrees....sure it will be fine tonight. Yay.

Our thermometre in the baby monitor was flashing 29 yesterday but I don't think it was really that hot...we've had a couple of different thermometres and IMO they always show a few degrees higher than it actually is. We don't have a fan either, so my main "tricks" are to keep the window a bit open but the blackout blind and/or curtains drawn as it keeps the room cooler and wetting baby's hair, face & neck before putting her down for a nap (I actually went in and carefully squirted some water again on her hair half way through the nap..luckily I didn't wake her up)

    • I highly recommend Temi as a very skilled and reliable painter / decorator based in the East Dulwich & SE London area. She has completed many jobs for us over the past 10 years at our property on Overhill Road SE22 and also on Harlescott Road SE15, and we have always been thoroughly impressed with her work. We often leave her with keys and leave her to work her magic, fully confident that she's 100% trustworthy and will always do a fantastic job. If you're looking for a trustworthy local decorator who delivers exceptional work Temi is a great person to call. I'm not affiliated with her or her business in any way and actually found her through a recommendation on the ED forum over 10 years ago, i just like to recommend really good tradespeople who deserve a thank you.
