Seem to find a new excuse each week to avoid going to Legs, Bums & Pregnancy Tums. Today i've been convincing myself that an exercise class in this heat would be bad for me and baby. Have only been to class once (only 19 weeks pregnant) - can't remember if the gym was hot or air conditioned.

Any thoughts?

I allowed far too many bits of conflicting advice to put me off exercise during pregnancy. I think exercise is a good thing, and much better for you than not exercising, assuming there's no medical reason you can't. If you find yourself getting drastically overheated during the class you can always sit down for 5 minutes and regain your composure. A good instructor will ensure no-one gets dangerously overheated anyway. Now get your gym knickers on and get down there!

As an exercise teacher I can say that the instructor will make sure they do not let you do anything too much. They will have all doors and windows open I am sure and probably teach the class in a more gentle format than usual. The teacher will also be qualified in ante and post natal exercise so the needs of you and your baby will be top of the list - not making you 'go for the burn' in this heat!

So as QueenMab says: 'Now get your gym knickers on and get down there!' You will feel much better for it.

How about swimming? I did a lot of swimming classes right up to my births (one week early) and found the mental focus required good for me. At the time, I didn't find them strenuous at all but I wonder if it did do somegood in the end as I put on 28 lbs exactly both times (2 stones!) but lost it v quickly pp.

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
