... according to Southern Rail's http://www.journeycheck.com/southern:

"Engineering work starting on 02/07/11 between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction.

Track improvements and maintenance are taking place on 02/07/11 between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction.

Whilst work is taking place, buses will replace trains

between Peckham Rye and Streatham Common via Tulse Hill

between Streatham Common and Peckham Rye via Tulse Hill

Train services will run as shuttles between London Bridge and Peckham Rye -in both directions- and between Crystal Palace and Beckenham Junction -in both directions-. Further Information is available from National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50."

This seems to be planned for both Saturday and Sunday, judging from the National Rail journey planner.

[Edited 14/8/11, following Jeremy's post, to remove the 2/3 July date from the title, and to note that the current JourneyCheck doesn't seem to have any mention of today's closure. Could that be because the work and closure started yesterday and the notification of the start has now fallen off the listing!?]

Is there anyway posters can be put up at ED station so everyone is aware?

The only time i seem to find out about this is via the forum. When I lived in Kilburn the tube station had posters clearly stating closures. Surely Southern rail could do the same (or even the station manager)

Just noticed this separate entry for Sunday on the Southern site:

"Engineering work starting on 03/07/11 between London Bridge and East Croydon.

Track improvements and maintenance are taking place on 03/07/11 between London Bridge and East Croydon.

Whilst work is taking place, buses will replace trains

between Peckham Rye and Streatham via Tulse Hill

between Streatham and Peckham Rye via Tulse Hill"

The plot thickens. From a Nat Rail journey planner enquiry for tomorrow:

09:14 Peckham Rye [PMR] London Bridge [LBG] 09:34 0h 20m 0 bus service

09:26 Peckham Rye [PMR] London Bridge [LBG] 09:36 0h 10m 0

09:44 Peckham Rye [PMR] London Bridge [LBG] 10:04 0h 20m 0 bus service

09:56 Peckham Rye [PMR] London Bridge [LBG] 10:06 0h 10m 0

10:14 Peckham Rye [PMR] London Bridge [LBG] 10:34 0h 20m 0 bus service

Hi saveshambo James advice was only partly right though I'm sure he didn't mean to mislead you. If you are going from east Dulwich to London bridge take the 40 bus ok. Or you can take the 176 & change at the elephant & castle or the 12 & change atthe elephant & castle though it takes longer than the 176.

40 is the best bet as it takes you all the way to London bridge.

Good luck

Sman!!

i think the engineering works are on the branch that goes from PEckham Rye down through ED. The trains that are not busses (if that makes sence) will likely be those running from Victoria to LB via Denmark Hill (therefore they will not be affected by the works on the ED branch.
  • 2 weeks later...

It has been really annoying having to get the bus into London Bridge early Sat AM and worse still trying to get back home later. Firstly the accident outside King's and last 2 weekends roadworks near King's so bad traffic. Does anyone have any idea how long these engineering works are going on for? It used to be occasional sundays but now appears to be all weekend.

Thanks.

    • I personally think is a great idea Bobbly and would love if there was a section for it. I wouldn't offer free gardening under the "for sale" section as I would expect something in exchange and wouldn't expect our cat being looked after for free under the "wanted" section, as an example.

    • I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there  back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?
    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?
