The UK terror threat level is being reduced from "severe" to "substantial", the home secretary has announced.

The new alert level means the risk of a terrorist attack is considered to be a "strong possibility" and "might well occur without further warning"

So that's good then, as long as it can occur anytime without warning, that's absolutely fine.

I think an arbitrary system like the DoHS's colour-coded one, or maybe something like Greek Gods would be desirable, without all this tiresome explication.

How much better if today's announcement was Threat Level reduced from Hermes to Demeter and just left at that.

There could be a "Forum Threat Level" posted at the top of the screen to identify how many weirdos are hanging around at the present time.

The threat levels could be named after weirdos from the past.

Nuclear: Big Bad Wolf

Red: MikeCG

Amber: Tony London Suburbs

Yellow: SteveT

Green: Louisa

It's like a DefCon for the strange.

Alert - The forum would like to draw your attention to today's threat level which is STEVE T. Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, mild racism and misogyny to a member of forum staff. Your assistance is appreciated

    • Thanks penguin  always wondered about that place and that’s way more info than I ever thought I would get  (used to live above a gun nut on friern road - he would tell me nothing)
    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
