The NSPCC do not cold call via house visits. My husband works for them and confirmed this is a scam. Also the collection staff would not have access to information regarding increase of child abuse in a particular area. Please report these people to the police. Do not give them your details. Either that or send them to my house!!!

Are you sure? They knocked on my door the other day and seemed to have credentials

I had a man knock on my door last week, coincidentally in the ONE SINGLE hour each week when I normally not home and my children are here alone (they are teenagers) -- I happened to be working from home that day but it was very unusual. He was collecting for something -- didn't get far enough to find out what because I pointed out the "no solicitors" sign on our front door. He then became very abusive and threatening so I closed the door, at which point he shouted obscenities at me through the letter box -- he called me a "dumb bitch" etc. And he proceeded to lecture me through the door about the requirement for an OFFICIAL sign -- homemade signs according to him are not legit. (is this true??) Anyway, it was a bit scary and I immediately e-mailed my entire street to let them know. Some people confessed later to hiding when he rang their bell or knocked.

shosntosh:-

1. There are no 'official' signs - although some Neighbourhood Watches do have printed decals you can use. But any sign of your choosing expresses your legitimate wishes. You are being bullsh*tted here.

2. You have described being the victim of abusive and threatening behaviour. This is illegal - in future, should this happen, call the police.

3. The chances of this being a legitimate charitable collector I would think are slim (but not, sadly, impossible). Because I can, and do, make use of Gift Aid I never give to random collectors at the door or street. Or to beggars, choosing to direct funds to legitimate charities who are best placed to make most (and most effective) use of them, and who can benefit from the tax contribution.

    • Some foxes are very tame. The foxes that live near the electricity sub-station thing on the corner of Calton and Woodwarde will happily walk up to you/passed you. They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
