Where to shred confidential waste?

Does anyone know if there are any public facilities anywhere for shredding confidential waste? Bank statements etc...?

I asked at the Veolia recycling place on Old Kent Road, but they just pack it all together without shredding so I don't fancy leaving it there.

I have rather a lot to shred so don't want to do it manually ideally!

Thanks!

BunnyBurrow, also, if it's stuff like bank statements, you could just cut the identifying parts off (name, address, bank, account number etc, sort code etc) and either shred or mush up those bits, then roughly tear up the parts without identifiers on and mingle those roughly torn up parts amongst the rest of your recycling?

Maybe too much trouble though if there's a lot of it.

ETA: But if it's bank statements from the same bank, you can cut the tops off several of them together, because the identifying parts are always in the same place - at least they are on mine.

I have a shredder, but I find if you've got a lot to do it takes forever, gets clogged up, and keeps cutting out.

    • confused by the question?
    • My point was in response to this:  "The idea that serving as a local councillor (including dealing with the public, internal party politics - which is always the most vicious where the stakes are lowest, and plenty of unpaid prep work) is a great pathway for careerists and moneygrabbers is utter shite. On a per hour basis you'd be far better off working at Sainsbos."   You could give up your job at sainsbury's and do a councillor's work and be very much better off. Most of these councillors earn this sort of money and still have full time jobs on the side.
    • No. The pool changing rooms are unaffected.   The gym changing rooms (aka dry side) are being refurbished.
    • Thanks for the link Dave. For clarity, the document shows that he receives the standard basic allowance all councillors get and a Senior Responsibility Allowance commensurate with the post he held. He claims no other allowance or any expenses as far as I can see... which makes me wonder what your point might be?
