malumbu
I see that the authorities have not approved this in England. I occasionally peruse the BBC comments as they can be entertainingly rabid. The comments below from the BBC are well informed and put across my argument very well.I regularly attend away games where everyone stands. Several times I've nearly gone flying over seats when celebrating - it would be far safer to stand helped by the right infrastructure.Tragic disasters have been caused by human incompetence but the point is to root out the mistakes and learn. The cruise industry did not cease when Titanic sank. Modern safe standing is safe due to learning. What does ED reckon? Lots of safe standing at our local club and better still beer too! A permanent ground would help but that is another issue. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/188121-safe-standing-at-football/ Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
Being naturally indolent, I prefer to sit in most places; football is the one time I love standing (preferably behind the goal). Moving from The Den to an all-seater stadium took away some of the joy.Going to DHFC allowed the elation back in. Mick Mac
We have safe standing at Celtic. Give it a try PGC. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/188121-safe-standing-at-football/#findComment-1236188 Share on other sites
Jules-and-Boo
It's a bit like going to gigs and having to sit down so no one gets hurt or falls over (and definitely no dancing allowed).Y*A*W*N Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/188121-safe-standing-at-football/#findComment-1236222 Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
In the words of Laurence Olivier, Mick Mac, "Is it safe?"* (that's if I were wearing a blue and white scarf!).*I may have got the wrong thread here. holloway
I'd love to have terraces back. Most German clubs have terraces and when European matches come along they just bring in seats and fix them into place, then easily removed for domestic fixtures. A genius idea. I think clubs should introduce a small terraced area as a pilot study and see how it goes. malumbu
As others have pointed out Celtic manage it, Dortmund and many others. Man U were considering it yonks ago rather than having to extend their ground. I was at a crowded match in 1980 and the police (did the stewarding then) opened up the gates to move us to the less crowded side pens to ease the crush. Not rocket science. Having said that many I know in their 20s seem to have not desire to have standing. Seeing the small Liverpool contingent tonight I'd also raise the Away fan allocation.Last time I saw it unlimited was Wimbledon vs Leeds and they simply kept on opening additional blocks in the Arthur Waite as numbers swelled. Annasfield
All for it and have been involved the Spirit of Shankly debate around it. My friend lost his brother at Hillsborough. He calls it safer standing. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/188121-safe-standing-at-football/#findComment-1236630 Share on other sites
