HIP TO IT: Spine, Shoulders and Hips - Saturday 2nd June 12-2 with Sarah Fretwell Yoga

Recommended Posts

This workshop is designed to strengthen and free all those muscles that have been strained, shortened and tightened after all those years of sitting on chairs or sofas for long periods, running or cycling, and simply not moving the way you were designed to move.

The hips and spine (and hamstrings which are muscles of the hip) were designed to have freedom of movement, to bend with ease, to be supple.

Sitting for long periods, whether that's at work or at home as well as the limited range of movement in our daily lives can cause these muscles and the fascia around them to contract and tighten, causing what we know as ?stiffness? or an inability to touch our toes or bend backwards with ease.

In this two hour workshop, we will explore how to cultivate a greater range of motion and strength in key areas of the body: the spine and all the muscles of the hips including the hamstrings. We will explore how to cultivate a greater awareness of the core muscles, how to access greater range of motion, both passively and actively, in key areas of the body, and how to release tight hips and hamstrings using dynamic movements.

This will not only help to improve the flexibility and strength, but it will also help alleviate back and hip pain, improve your posture, teach you how find freedom in these areas with yoga poses and exercises that you can take back home to your own mat. We will also explore the function of hips, shoulders, abdominals, and limbs in creating a strong and supported backbending practice. The workshop ends with exercises that unwind the spine, savasana, and meditation.

If you want to get stronger in your core or have tight hamstrings, weak hip flexors, or have back pain, this workshop is for you! ALL levels of practitioners are welcome. No need to bring a mat, just bring a pen and notebook.

*Healthy treats provided after the workshop

Tickets are ?30 (this includes the eventbrite charge).

    • WoW Sue, all guns blazing.
    • So you don't feel safe in London, but you don't want to live elsewhere? What do you do, barricade yourself in your home and never venture out? I have my eyes (sic)  open. Yes there is crime in London. That doesn't make London "lawless".
    • Well good for you, I don't feel safe. And saying why don't I go and live somewhere else is crass.  Yes London is lawless, open your eys and see the reality.
    • Also, as discussed on another thread, that particular  assailant was possibly (we don't know)  mentally ill. Whereas I'm guessing most crimes locally are   committed for money, (ie things that can be sold, or in hopes of insurance money), food (if someone is really desperate, or to sell) or just pure mischief (like the recent goings on on Peckham Rye). I'm a 76 year old woman, and I feel safe on the streets, and I frequently go to Central London. If you seriously don't feel safe living here, why on earth don't you go and live somewhere else?! It's absolute nonsense to say London is lawless, and it's absolute nonsense to say the police stand by and do nothing. There will always be crime. It used to be cutpurses and highwaymen. And organised gangs of thieves. And people like Jack the Ripper.
