ED Dog Lovers - where to go with a dog around here?

Recommended Posts

Ignoring the obvious Dulwich Park, Peckham Rye Park, woods I was wondering if there are other places that are good to go to

also which pubs, shops are OK for dogs to go inside (that also allow children)

for example I know the Gowlett does good pizza and lets children and dogs in and I also know that White Stuff allows dogs on leads inside

Thank you

Nunhead Cemetary I think dogs and children are allowed in the Herne, dogs are allowed in the Clockhouse, not sure about children and the Rye Hotel/pub, but children have to leave by 6pm I think and if you drive, Beckenham Place park is gorgeous :)) I think the cafe on the corner of the gardens too.

Morrow didn't allow a runner to reach scoring position until the sixth inning. During that frame, he gave up an infield single, a walk and a hit batter to load the bases with two out. Morrow then zeroed in and struck out left fielder Trayvon Robinson on seven pitches to end the threat.

"Morrow was good," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "He had four pitches working and had a live fastball. It was jumping on us a little bit. So, you have to tip your cap a little bit. Our guys were up there taking their hacks and trying to fight through it. ... But he had pretty good stuff tonight."

The fifth-year pitcher recorded his sixth career 10-plus strikeout game and fourth of the season. He also improved to 7-3 during his past 12 starts and now has nine quality starts in his last 13 outings.

He has settled into a groove and while there are still occasional bouts of inconsistency he is a much more efficient pitcher than he was during his three seasons in Seattle.

"I don't think my pitching style has changed necessarily but I think my ability to do what I want with the ball has improved," said Morrow, who is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA with 19 strikeouts in two starts against the Mariners this year.

"Obviously my ability to stay in the strike zone and just pitch later into games have been the biggest things. Walks are down, and even my strikeouts are up, and I think that's attributed to throwing more strikes."

Edwin Encarnacion started the barrage of Blue Jays home runs in the top of the second. Toronto's designated hitter sent a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left field for his 12th of the year.

The Blue Jays picked up a series victory in Seattle for the first time since Sept. 11-13, 2006. The club also won for the fourth time in five games and has won three of its past four series.

"The ability to win a series on the road is always a good thing and the way Brandon came out tonight, he was extremely powerful," Farrell said.

"To think where he has come in just two years time, has settled into a role here. Obviously has gotten consistent work, consistent outings and just overpowering for the six innings tonight."

It would seem logical to me that to have a dog, you may well have a garden.

I appreciate that may not always be the case.

The point I would like to make is.. Let your dog do it's business in your garden

before you take it out to the park.

That way we would see less poo on our pavements and in our parks.

Not to much to ask.

And before people say they cannot tell when their dog wants to go.

I understand the main reason people take their dogs out is not for exercise

but indeed to do their business.

Appologies to those who have no garden. and pick up their pets poo and dispose in the bins provided.

This post is not about dog poo its about dog friendly parks and cafes. Please do not boycott it, if you want to start another thread on dog poo in the area please do so!

I would recommend the Victoria on Bellenden Rd, very dog and family friendly with good food.

On the contary, The criteria for places being dog friendly rests with responsible owners.

That includes the issue with dog poo.

I once saw a dog poo on the floor in the Palmerston. (Old Palmerston)

Ridgely and Dulwich Fox,

I can pretty much guarantee that in posting on a thread like this your are preaching to the converted. Those who don't pick up are unlikely to ask about dog friendly places. We all understand the frustration with this issue but at the root is an anti social minority who probably do all sorts of other dodgy stuff. You are wasting your time chastising dog owners on here.

By the way, most people do not take their dog to the park to defecate, they do so to enjoy the fresh air and to give themselves and their pet exercise and socialisation. It is possible to teach a dog to defecate on command but not easy to do and not guaranteed to work.

Anyhow, that aside it is great that ED is generally such a dog friendly place, full of responsible dog owners- evidenced, I suppose, by the amount of establishments prepared to let well behaved dogs across the threshold.

Ridgley,

You know what I'm going to say- there are the same idiots that actually do urinate outside people's homes after a long night at the pub. Moreover I have now, a number of times, witnessed 'gentleman' urinating on Peckham Rye, in full view of everyone,in broad daylight, taking a 'comfort break' from their football match ( the cafe and children's play area only yards away).Yes, anti-social, thoughtless people are maddening.

thanks for great suggestions - looking forward to taking pup out

re dog poo -- I've lived here a long time, I'm fully aware that dogs poo and I have a duty to ensure that any antisocial behaviour from our dog is sorted by us, why you feel you have to make the point about it is beyond me, the warning post is kind of patronising. Still I suppose it gives something to say eh ;)

    • I had certainly heard that Helen Hayes was planning to stand down from being an MP - although I don't think I've seen that confirmed anywhere that I recall. If so, that is a shame, she was generally very competent and she knew the area well. A very good constituency MP and  had performed reasonably creditably in a minor Front Bench role. A loss to Parliamentary politics, in my view, if she is standing down.
    • We've just bought a previously tenanted flat which has come with a large amount of cutlery and cooking utensils which we'd be happy to give away.
    • Sadly this means for those of us who live within this ward the brilliant Helen Hayes will no longer represent us (that is if she's standing again). The Labour candidate for Lewisham West and East Dulwich is Ellie Reeves who has been MP for West Lewisham and Penge before the redrawing of boundaries.  She is sister to Rachel Reeves.
    • Highly recommend Kam Thompson (of Bascoe & Reid) for all your painting and decorating needs.  We've had him back many times and he has now painted our whole house to a fantastic standard. He is also great to have around. His number is 07949507412
