Antic pubs

Just had a quick look at their website and see they have a few pubs opening in Forest Hill and Sydenham in the next few months

Any improvement on what they are replacing?

The one in Forest Hill replacing an old post office - that can't be a bad shot in the arm for the area can it?

Up on the (Crystal Palace) hill we have heard a rumour that the manager of the ED Tavern (as opposed to the Antic group themselves) has bought The Alma. The Alma still seems to be limping along though so it may be down to chinese whispers...

I actually really liked the Woodman in it's last incarnation. Nobody seems to be able to make the place work though, so bit of a risk.

Very pleased to hear this though, as I'd heard an estate agent had bought it and planned to turn it in to their new office.

scroll down and you'll see B&W drawings instead of photos - there is one for the Greyhound and the address is 313 Kirkdale

Can't believe they're calling a pub in Sydenham The Greyhound. Can't be coincidence.

It isn't a coincidence. They are in fact doing up The Greyhound, which is infact 313 Kirkdale. The Woodman is 110.

Dam it, looks like it'll be an estate agent after all :-(

oops - sorry. But I blame that pub website for giving me the info (I'm sure a faint alarm bell was ringing - I think I've been to the old Greyhound too)

I think that the Greyhound is being turned into flats. Lots of building work going on there.

The old pub is definitely remaining a pub, but they are building flats and retail units. The people of Sydenham are getting jolly excited about rumours of a Waitrose coming to the site...

The Woodman has been acquired by Wooster Stock & the Greyhound is Sydenhams oldest pub I think.

Though I didn't know that the old post-office was going to be a pub, hopefully they'll keep the feel of the old place. I quite fancy queuing up for ages whilst one person serves at their own pace.

On a serious note, i've noticed a change along the new East London Line, in places like Brockley etc & it seems like it's spreading to Forrest Hill / Sydenham as well. I think the area as a whole needs a boost but things are changing for sure.

Fancy an ale down there when it opens SJ ?
