Lack of maintenance in Peckham Rye Park

I've been in meetings today, I will take on board the issues raised on here and get back to you

I suppose Southwark also have to take on board all the rubbish that is left in parks by people on a daily basis. What would happen if this isn't collected? There has to be some give and take but the weather has a lot to answer for about the weed growth etc.

18,789 posts on the EDF internet forum suggests you might have some free time (if it were a priority for you).

That's only 4.5 posts a day - probs no more than 15 minutes, often less. With no travel time involved.

As I said, I am busy. There are lots of things I would like to do if I had the time. Why should I stop posting on here? It is a break from other things, and keeps me in touch with what is going on locally. Since I have lived here a long time I am presumably allowed an interest.

You must have a lot of time on your hands if you could be bothered to look up the number of posts I have made just to have a go at me.

Not sure it really matters - can we return to subject of Peckham rye park.

I went to Sexby garden yesterday and it seemed in reasonably good nick.

I've been on holiday. When I walked into the park last week, I thought it looked wonderful, except for the ruts where the festival was. The park is green and lush. Beautiful.

Well yes, most places are green and lush due to all the rain we had earlier combined with the spells of hot weather.

Unfortunately much of the greenness and lushness in the park borders is (or was when I started the thread) weeds.

For those who aren't gardeners, the problem with weeds is not just that they can look very unsightly in what are supposed to be ornamental borders, but that they compete with the plants which are supposed to be there for space, nutrients and light.

Also, they self seed all over the place and within a very short time what started off as a few weeds have taken over the whole of the space.

Afraid not. Walked through the Sexby Garden today and the beds are full of weeds. Bind weed chocking all the roses. Spoke to one of the gardeners & apparently there are fewer staff & they keep being given ?projects? to do rather than general maintenance & weeding.

Who is giving them these "projects", do you know? (and do you know what they are?)

Surely if there is somebody in charge it should be someone with a basic grasp of the need to keep on top of maintenance?!
