I am thinking about having a bike shed installed in my front garden, has anyone got anything good/bad to say about either the metal ones or the dulwichgreen.com shed with garden-on-the-roof types?...do they get targeted by robbers? and can they successfully break into them, any information gratefully received. Thank you!

Any determined burglar can break into a bike shed, though options are more restricted if it is in thr front garden. But then again, one could attack such a shed in the small hours.

People seem to suggest on the EDF that if you are going to secure a bike outside, it needs to be to a securely concreted purpose built metal loop (I don't remember the name, but search it on the EDF).

Hi

If you have your bike insured, it's worth checking the T&C's before you invest in a shed, you may find that most policies won't cover it. For what it's worth, putting your bike in a very visible place secured with locks that would require the use of power tools will be enough to put most bike thieves off. You wouldn't want to wake the neighbours would you?!

    • The Palmerston is open for meals on Christmas Day. I imagine The Cherry Tree will be again. We had a truly terrible meal there on Christmas Day last year which cost us £100 each without drinks, so I wouldn't recommend you book there 😭
    • Wow..has this forum gone down the pan..  Admin??  Two topics which do not make any sense at all.. Survey Horniman and asking for fireworks..       Sorry for fireworks - did not read clearly - my mistake wanted tickets..

    • That’s interesting, Dulwich Dweller; my 70 yr old neighbour told me 2 weeks ago that he’d left work early to go and book in person (being uncomfortable with all the online & app stuff) and was explicitly told that he needed to go away and book online. He’s not the sort of person to be insistent and, like a lot of older people, a bit embarrassed at his lack of digital ability, so he left without the appointment . This is my point about inconsistency, since his experience was quite different from yours. I’m beginning think that it rather depends on who, at Reception, you speak to on day…
