Construction work has now begun on the new health centre at the site of the old Dulwich hospital. The NHS in Southwark is now looking how we can improve the services provided at the new health centre, including general practice services. The NHS would like to hear what people think is important about the 8am to 8pm service currently provided at the Lister Health Centre in Peckham and what they would like to see improved.

The additional question is (in my view) important.

We are considering moving the 8 to 8 service to the new Dulwich Health Centre from 2020, possibly with some 8 to 8 services still provided at the Lister Primary Care Centre in Peckham. Which of the following would you prefer?

- Dulwich

- Dulwich and Lister

- Lister

- Don?t know

What an utterly useless question. It's the equivalent of TfL asking "Would you like us to offer a regular 176 bus service or a regular 185 bus service, or both?" Er....

Note that the version of the survey for users of the Hambleden Clinic or Melbourne Grove surgery

1. Has a closing date of today, 22 June.

2. Is purportedly not just about the 8-to-8 service, and some very general questions, but also has one specific question, number 30, about user preferences in awarding of the new GP contracts at those surgeries after the current ones end on 31 March 2019.

As the CCG's letter of 7 March to users of those surgeries said:

"We would like to tell you more information about this proposal [the move to Dulwich Hospital] and to make sure that your views are taken into account when deciding who manages GP services in your surgery by telling us what you value about the current service and what you would like to see improved. This will help us to choose the most relevant provider and that the decision is in the best interests of patients and staff."

"You can contribute your views in the following ways:"

"** Attend the meeting on 22 March, 6:30-8:00pm at Dulwich Hospital...

** Complete a paper survey which will be available at the meeting or can be sent to you.

** Complete an online survey that will be available after the meeting."

Question 30 is "Is there anything else that you would like us to take into account when making a decision about appointing a new GP services organisation to run your GP surgery?"

I don't think this is a satisfactory way of canvassing or obtaining full opinions about such an important matter as the type of GP practice people want. I do fear it may be the only opportunity proffered. I don't incidentally recollect the question even being raised at the 22 March meeting.
