Miacis
HiDoes anyone know if the park closing times have been changed as a result of cuts? My adughter and I were turned out of Sunray Gardens just before six this evening - which seems appallingly early when it is still so light. Still lots of people wanting to use the park, play in payground, walk dogs. Two kids just climbed straight back in - don't really blame them - where else can they go?Looked at park closing times for rest of year and they do seem early. When the clocks go back the park will be closing at 3.30 - just as the schools come out. Is this normal and something I have just missed? It certainly feels much too early.Spoke to others and people were genuinely v annoyed about this. It felt new. One mum had spent 1 1/2 hours waiting around for a brownies group to start earlier in the week but couldn't use the park - despite it being perfectly light. So much for encouraging us all to get active.bestM Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19570-park-closing-times/ Share on other sites
Frankito
That does sound rubbish indeed. My dog is going to go ape(!?) at that news...! Last year I am sure it was never that early, not for Peckham Rye Park at least. Marmora Man
I've said this before - I don't see the logic in closing and locking the parks. The committed will and do climb over and thru' the railings so it achieves very little in the way of security for users or park equipment / flora / fauna. If "cuts" are part of the issue - why not dispense with the locking up and the subsequently necessary unlocking. That should save money and make the parks more accessible. When we lived in the countryside - it was always available and accessible, as is Peckham Rye. Why should Londoners access to green space in more formal parked be rationed? DJKillaQueen
I think the policy is to close at sunset, so in the winter that can mean 4.30 ish. Jeremy
Parks close earlier in the winter. Surely nothing to do with cuts. Not long before it's getting dark at 6pm... ClareC
If it is a financial issue why not use volunteers? I would happily take a turn! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19570-park-closing-times/#findComment-475187 Share on other sites

Alan Medic
Well it would be obvious what you were doing if you were caught climbing over the gates with a bunch of flowers.
