Nisha is leaving Val's and East Dulwich this week

Not sure if this is old news as I've been away for 3 weeks but Nisha informed me last night that she is having to leave her business and ED/London as it is no longer viable since Sainsbury's opened.

The store will be taken over by some Sri Lankan friends of hers on Thursday.

Very sad news as she was adamant she wouldn't be closing down or leaving the area.

I popped in there a few weeks ago for the first time in ages since I moved away from there and it was noticeably quieter at a time when I expected it to be busy

Shame - they were great shopkeepers and always went out of their way to help me if they didn't have something in stock. Best of luck to them

Ah, this is sad. I will miss Nisha - she is such a lovely lady.

Very sad news. Nisha and family were always very welcoming and friendly. Once when I needed some Star Anise, Nisha went upstairs and brought me some from her kitchen! Wish them all the very best in Nottingham.

Bit odd if someone's taken over a business which is losing money due to Sainsbury's.

What are they going to do to make it viable which Nisha hasn't already done?

I know we are so, so sad - she is just the loveliest woman - so friendly and helpful. She always gave my daughter a bit of fruit whenever we went in and remembered her name. Do you know when she is actually going - we want to give her a card or something?

I think tomorrow is her last full day. She mentioned leaving at midday on Thursday.

Oh this is sad news - its such a shame especially as I know how hard she has been trying to keep the business going. I always bypass Sainsburys Local and go to Nisha for fresh fruit and vegetables - it's so much better and you get such a friendly service. Really very sad to see her go. All the best Nisha to you and your family!

I will continue to support the local independent shops though so good luck to the new owners and I will be popping in soon!

When I spoke with her about 2/3 weeks ago she was remaining in the area as children were doing their A levels and she did not want to change schools.

She also asked if I knew anyone who could give her a few hours work i. e child minding, checking in on an older person.
