Bit of an odd question perhaps but I've just attended a beekeeping workshop today run by Brian McCallum from http://www.urbanbees.co.uk/ as my wonderful company is one of a few in Victoria who plan to install hives in the outdoor spaces we have available (mainly the roofs).

with the honey bee in a steep state of decline in the UK I think it's wonderful that all these urban bee colonies are being established and I feel privileged to be able to become a part of it in the future :-)

Anyway, I was just wondering if there were any Apiarists in ED or close by with working hives that I could visit. Or just who could share some info/tips etc before it all kicks off here (won't be realistically until the Spring as we all need training and equipment!)

Many thanks

Tara

There's one in Brockley. Sorry I can't be very helpful as I can't remember the name but earlier this year I definitely bought some local honey from the Frog on the Green deli in Nunhead and it was from a beekeeper in Brockley. Maybe give the deli a call and they could give you their details?

    • Seems to be back on now although pressure reduced especially for hot water via boiler. Hopefully I can have a shower in the morning.
    • It’s far too hot. Dogs should not be out and you’re right to post this.
    • Agree that you have to be so careful dogs in this heat… but please dont judge so quickly.  Its one thing if you see a dog at midday being thrown the ball endlessly, but if you see a dog en route / somewhere - You dont know if that dog was being walked to the vet for an emergency appointment.. or taken to a friend’s house that is cooler etc.  And if they live in a flat, they might desperately need to be taken out for a quick pee / poo !
    • I know,  absolutely crazy.  A dog has never died because it didn't have a walk, but dogs do die if walked in this heat. Perhaps the owners should put on a thick fur coat, take their shoes off and jog round the pavements, and see how that feels! 🤬
