srisky
Is this the most boring post for a Friday? Probably......as the days/nights are getting cooler condensation has started to appear on our windows. We live in a Victorian flat with single glazing and when it's really cold we wake in the morning to find condensation running down our windows and pooling on the window sills (this happens even in the rooms we are not sleeping in). The window sill in our bedroom is getting damaged as a result. I don't think we generate any more moisture than the average 3 person family - yesterday, for example, the windows were open all day, two showers, one baby bath, kettle boiled a few times, rice boiled for 10mins, no laundry out to dry, had the dehumidifier on and still there was condensation on the windows this morning and the night wasn't even that cold.Any advice as to what we can do to reduce the amount of condensation on our windows, apart from leaving the windows open all day (too wasteful if the heating is on and no good when we're at work)? Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20047-tis-fast-approaching-the-season-for-condensation/ Share on other sites
sanity girl
this stuff does the job for me. You can get it from Homebase or most local diy shops. It's really easy to put up Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20047-tis-fast-approaching-the-season-for-condensation/#findComment-491181 Share on other sites
srisky
Thanks, sanity girl, I plan on giving this a try, although someone mentioned on my (equally dull) washer dryer thread that this may lead to rotting soft furnishings, as the moisture remains in the atmosphere :-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20047-tis-fast-approaching-the-season-for-condensation/#findComment-491190 Share on other sites
sanity girl
it really worked for me as the moisture was coming from the outside through the drafty windows rather than from inside. You should definitely give it a go at least in one room and see if it works for you. Townleygreen
Ventilation is needed in all rooms - doesn't have to be as bad as open windows - do you have a fan you can turn on?Double glaszing has trickle vents, for instance. apenn
We had terrible condensation in our flat for years, then finally bought a dehumidifier. Wish we had done it earlier!-A Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20047-tis-fast-approaching-the-season-for-condensation/#findComment-491688 Share on other sites
