Southwark Guy Fawkes night

5 November 2011

Time: 6pm - 7.30pm

Location: Bermondsey Park

Cost: Free

Southwark Council's traditional firework display in Bermondsey Park.

Set in the stunning 63 acre Bermondsey Park at the south end near the running track.

As well as the much-loved rockets, roman candles and sparklers the council is also set to provide food and novelty stalls, a mulled wine and spiced cider bar and children's funfair rides.

Or in other words set as far away from ED as Southwark council possibly could. Go to Lambeth's Brockwell party instead - that's local.

is 'bermondsey park' really southwark park or is it somewhere else?

But last year was rainy for lots of the month - apart from the last 24 hours the ground is pretty parched. The Muddy Hell event at the velodrome last week had to make the ground muddier in certain places to cope with the dry weather.

And the Sports Ground event wasn't that crowded on the other side of the bonfire last year - people chose to congregate closer to the bars etc. rather than to spread into the field.

Either way, I'll be in Brockwell Park.

Same here, though I hope they've sorted out the way they get people out of the park at the end of the event.

The last time they had a display there it took what seemed like hours to disperse the crowd.

Everybody was trying to cross the main road, there were massive bottlenecks at at least two different gates, and they really should have had police or other officials controlling the traffic at the relevant crossings.

And in a tribute to the pagan origins of the night we will burn you inside a wicker cup-cake to appease the rain/snow Gods.

    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
    • I haven't used them myself but I noticed recently that "Snoots" in Forest Hill is going unlimited primary care for £33/month, so basically a subscription. Easy access on the 176 from East Dulwich. I have no idea what it includes so read the contract! It's a chain but only 5 branches so not a mega corporate. 🤷‍♂️ https://www.snootsvet.com/find-us
