Totally FREE! E' Dul Cycle Rides: Sundays 9-30am London Pks & Blue Plaques short rides: Dates TBC

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

This will be our first ride after around a few months - I have changed the format so there is a 'once-amonth' ride of either local and croissant / cake & coffee orientated, or medium up to and around 25~35-miles.

Anyone can join in, its FREE! I always suggest a high vis or a vibrant non high vis colour such as red. The short rides are slower.

Feel free to comment and sign up, I'm limited to really 1 comment a week on this thread to avoid hogging - so I may PM you.

Bring whoever you wish provided you are happy, a little seat on the back for a toddle, a strap on bike extender for an older one that wishes to cycle too :-) Even Grandma & Grandad.

Best!

Guys,

We may be blessed with good weather this coming Sunday!

The short ride didn't happen a couple of weeks back due to the British Summer, so lets start with this lovely ride which will take us along the following route:

* Bellingdon Road

* Old Surrey Canal

* Via south of Tower Bridge along Jamacia Road

* To Rotherhide tunnel and around the back covering part of the Marathon Route

* Exit via Surrey Quays into Southwark Park.

* Tea, coffee & cake.... lots of it!

See you at the Goose Green Texaco Garage for 10am. If you can, wear a bit of High Vis or a vibrant colour :-)

McCabe.

Tomorrow is a nice local ride to Southwark Park - weather looks good too!

This will be an ave toddle of a speed, not too fast so good for the 'back to cycling' or 'leisure' cyclists, and a breeze for the active cyclists.

See you in the morning.

  • 7 months later...

OK my crazy bike friends, I'm back, or rather we're back!

The weather is on the turn, will give it another few weeks so the lux levels are higher and a wee bit warmer too!

As a natural leader, I let you guys make the decisions :-). As a starting point though, meeting everyother Sunday at the Dulwich Park main entrance opp the Gallery for say.... 9-30am.

a) Local rides around historic locations of London and Greater London?

b) 20 ~ 40 mile rides with a biggy to Brighton after a few months?,

c) Alternate the rides on each occasion with a London one, then a long one, or.....

d) Create 2-teams and I will alternate?

Remember, its completely FREE, its FUN, we don't race or move at a fast pace, and..... we don't do red lights or pavements! Its always suggested to wear a helment, a vibrant colour top - could be high vis or any thing light (green isn't a good colour for country rides), and finally insurance which can be nominal.

Great for burning calories, firming legs, gluts (your bottom), arms and upper body. Not to mention Endorphins too!

Best!

Hi

I keep promising myself to get back on my bike which hasn't had the cover off since the autumn so would definitely fall into your 'back to cycling' or 'leisure cycling' category, so if you go for option 1 on some or all rides I'd be very interested in joining in. I'll keep checking this thread for updates.

Thanks

Excellent!

OK, here are some of my fav rides into London - and BTW, I will change the startng point depending on where we are going so if its Central London then the Texaco garage by Goose Green, but if South then Dulwich Park.

* Hyde Park - Bellenden Road, Camberwell New Road etc... takes c.30-mins to get there, then circle the park and stop for a coffee and cake!

* Regents Park - same journey as above, with an extra couple of miles from Speakers Corner.

* Brick Lane & Spittlefields - Bellenden, right to Peck Library, left along the old Surrey Canal to Tower Bri..

Best!

Hi Eleanor,

I'm hoping that next week will be the last of the bad weather and will set a starting date thereafter.

The first ride will be a London one, tea / coffee at Spittlefields or Hyde Park (a closer ride).

Thanks,

McCabe

Hola!

Sorry to all for the lack of response but..... I want you to enjoy the rides in non sub-zero temperatures.

Its my understanding that this beautiful cutting cold, dark, windy and wet weather will last into mid April - so therefore holding back to find a date to start this annual great event!

My gosh, we have had such great rides which purely uses the morning, so you are back for a shower, lunch and for me theatre in the afternoon.

Bare-with, as they say, and I will put the start date shortly.

  • 2 weeks later...

Short notice to all!

The weather has suddenly changed and this coming Sunday will be the first ride - and.... all the themes from now on will be London Parks.

This is an easy going group, no racing or jumping red lights, loads of fun and naughty brunches which will be burnt off due to the ride :-) I will aim to have you back in doors by noon for you to enjoy the rest of your day.

This Sunday, 9-30am meeting at the Texaco Garage, Goose Green. Please wear a high vis, helment and bring some cash for the tea/coffee.

Due to short notice, it may just be me or perhaps a few others this Sunday. There are some really cool rides that take you along the old Surrey Canal upto Tower Bridge, others also on B & A class roads and then into the parks.

I have been running Public Health projects for 6-years now and feel that they are getting better, and better, and even better. I would like the team to select a health-care charity so we can raise some money and awareness for that are London / UK based so they can attend.

Catch you on Sunday!

McCabe.

Hi there,

The choice is yours as to wearing a helmet - and hi vis is nice to have but entirely up to you.

Journey:

* Cut down to the end of Bellenden Road,

* Left and through Camberwell to Vauxhall on Camberwell New Road.

* Dismount and head over Vauxhall Bri and take a left.... to Albert Bri

* Left again and head over the bridge and into Battersea Park. This is a slightly longer way there so the journey back will be quicker. Head into the centre to the caf? for tea / coffee etc.

* Then back and indoors before noon :-)

Hola Petra_29,

I pick into a few launguages - the Polish and Arabics laught out loud when a big Irish guy speaks their launguage.... and that is what multi-culturism is all about!

OMG, there is a catch to this..... someone has to buy me a latt? for organising the cycle events!

Welcome aboard!

    • Where did I say he did a good job? Yup and Corbyn was very close to Len McCluskey and funded by Unite wasn't he...they're all as bad as each other... Labour have to purge their party of the far-left - they're a disaster. Allan Johnson summed it up so well on election night in 2019....
    • Thank you for the detailed advise @trinidad It is definitely damage we are concerned about. I don’t think Evri would agree to pay the bill to fix our gate or letter box if they were to be damaged as a result of their delivery drivers helper. Our doorbell can be heard from outside when rung so we don’t quite believe the aggressive simultaneous door/letter box banging is necessary. It can be quite a shock it is done very aggressively.  I’ll definitely action the steps you’ve kindly provided along with a phone call tomorrow. I do sympathise with the role drivers have and how busy they are, which is why we tried communicating directly with her but sadly we haven’t succeeded
    • What outcome would you like? Disciplinary action? Not to have the driver back? Retraining? I know there is alot of pressure on drivers to deliver within a set day. if he slams the gate, is it evidence he is causing damage, or is the noise a irritant to yourself? You could put a sign up or buy a signing asking to close the gate gentle???? can you hear the door bell from the door? he might be ringing, not hearing and therefore knocking. In trhe notes section of the be livery page, there is a note section, although there is not 100 per cent these notes would be read as these drivers are constantly rushing.  I did a google search for you, i found this and you can try the envri website Contact Us | Evri   To complain to Evri, you can follow these steps: Contact Customer Service: Call Evri's customer service at 0330 808 5456 for assistance with your complaint.    1 Write a Letter: Address your complaint to Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 0WH.    1 Use the Official Website: Visit the Evri complaints page on their official website for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint.    2 Email or Call for Specific Issues: For issues like missing or damaged parcels, you can email or call 0800 988 8888, which is free to call.    1 These methods will help you effectively communicate your concerns to Evri.   My driver is called anthony, he is brilliant to be honest. I cant fault him.
    • When I have more time and energy, I will look up the actual number of votes cast for each party in that election, rather than the number of seats won. I'm interested to see that you apparently  think that  Boris Johnson did a good job of "leading the country through Covid." Is your memory really that short? I won't stoop to calling Johnson and his cronies names in the way that you seem to think is appropriate for left wing politicians. At least the left wing politicians have some semblance of morals and a concern for people who aren't in some over privileged inner circle and/or raking in money for themselves on the back of an epidemic. I'm not going to open a can of worms on here  by commenting on the disgraceful so called "purge".
