Wayne24
Gone are the days of spontaneously deciding at 2:30pm to go and watch The Hamlet play.I so miss seeing the community spirit in the walk to Champion Hill with all the pubs and restaurants on LL filled with people wearing pink and blue scarves and shirts. It's a real shame as now the train routes seems to have changed to get to DHFC's temporary ground near Mitcham Junction adding to journey time.An uber costs well over ?20 from ED and buses are not an option. It's getting harder and harder to support our 'local' team and I'd rather be spending that money and seeing it go directly to the club rather than a cab or TFL.I know it sounds like a broken record but- The sooner that this mess is resolved and we see Hamlet moving back home to Champion Hill the better!Sadly it still looks grim. ruffers
I get an overground from forest hill to Croydon then the tram to Mitcham. Same journey time as uber but a fraction of the price.Agree with everything else btw. rendelharris
22 minutes train East Dulwich>Tulse Hill>Mitcham Junction, 1 change. No substitute for coming home but not too onerous. Wayne24
I thought that train service via Tulse Hill doesn't run anymore Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/202472-getting-to-dulwich-hamlet/#findComment-1274374 Share on other sites
rendelharris
No more direct trains, just change at Tulse Hill, six-minute wait. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/202472-getting-to-dulwich-hamlet/#findComment-1274381 Share on other sites
Zak
How about taking the train from East Dulwich Station to Streatham (9 minutes) and then getting a 118 bus from Streatham High Road(opposite the ice rink),which stops pretty much outside the ground (approx.30 mins.)Why aren't there any directions on the club website? very strange.............. Sue
If you put your own postcode and the ground's postcode into Google Maps and opt for the public transport option, you can see which is the quickest travel option at the time you have to leave (or arrive). It will probably vary depending on the time of day.Same with coming back. Wayne24
Yes I know how to get there and have been down to Imperial Fields a few times - but when I checked my train times app on Saturday the East Dulwich to Tulse Hill then change for Mitcham Junction showed there were no train routes for some reason. It was telling me to go via Forest Hill to East Croydon then tram- A 1 hour and 24 minute total journey door to door instead of 30 minute journey (or my usual 9 minute walk to Champion Hill back in the good old days) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/202472-getting-to-dulwich-hamlet/#findComment-1274863 Share on other sites
rendelharris
Are you using the TfL app? Very hit and miss with non-TfL services. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/202472-getting-to-dulwich-hamlet/#findComment-1274872 Share on other sites
Rumbero
I wouldn't have thought a proper licensed taxi would exactly break the bank particularly if you got together with other supporters on a regular basis and split the fare. I believe they can accommodate at least five passengers (six in some cases). They also have access to the bus lanes so the journey time is likely to be significantly less than private hire. Maybe you could negotiate with a local cabbie or download one of the black cab apps. The American e-hailing app you refer to isn't the only game in town (much as they'd like to be) and your hard-earned money won't be filling the coffers of an exploitative company domiciled, for UK tax avoidance purposes, in the Netherlands. wulfhound
Get the train to Norbury, it's a long-ish walk, a short-ish bike ride or a cheap-ish minicab from there. nivag
Citymapper is a better app for working out how to get around London, it gives better options IMO than Google maps.https://citymapper.com/london Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/202472-getting-to-dulwich-hamlet/#findComment-1275132 Share on other sites
Wayne24
Yes I know how to use all those apps.I know how to get to Imperial Fields. I know how to book various types of cabs.I'm just pointing out that it's a shame that our local club is not exactly local at the moment and that it does add a bit of extra cost to watch them play. Did the- 22 minutes train East Dulwich>Tulse Hill>Mitcham Junction- actually work last Saturday? It would be nice if the club could perhaps provide updated travel information on a weekly basis to ensure fans turn out in numbers at our temporary 'home' games.I know that a dedicated shuttle bus (or buses) departing every game from Champion Hill to Mitcham would deem to be not cost effective but it would be a nice two fingers to Meadow Residential showing that we will not give up on 125+ years of football history.
