Aupair babysitting rates - help?

We have an aupair for the first time.

How much do you pay your Aupairs when they do weekday or Saturday evening babysitting?

We pay minimum wage for any hours above the hours that are in the contract. Happens very rarely thiugh as ours does one evening babysit per week which is included

We pay ?10 an hour, but we have two weeknights of babysitting included already.

After receiving some feedback via private message, we have also decided to pay ?8/h (ours doesn?t have any evening babysitting included in her pocket money though)

Is this pocket money or wages as does seem that there are a lot of cash in hand deals going on here and tax avoidance is very high... I hope that employer and employee and declaring to the the tax office

The threshold to register as an employer for PAYE is ?116 a week, but NI doesn't kick in until ?162 a week and PAYE doesn't start until ?221 a week. With most au pairs getting sub-?100 a week as basic pay/pocket money it is unlikely that even with extra babysitting money they/their employers owe any tax or NI.

There are probably a lot of people just nudging over the ?116 where they should be registered though. We use nannytax to do our registration.
