First mention to your health professional (midwife or doctor) to make sure there is not underlying medical cause. If it is just one of those things - raise your feet whilst relaxing on the sofa and get some lovely calming foot rub and a caring husband to rub it in. I used the one from the Body Shop.

I've reread my initial post and realise it doesn't make sense.... So apologies.

I should be clear , I am 30 weeks pregnant and now have swollen ankles (as of yesterday) but this didnt happen at all in my first pregnancy. Bit shocked by it.

I will contact my doctor when home from Rome. ... I'm drinking lots of water too.

Thanks all

I had this problem too. My ankles were so swollen in my latter weeks of pregnancy that I was limping! My midwife recommended wearing flight socks which really worked. I wore them at night and whenever I had a chance during the day and it did help. You should definitely mention it to your midwife though. It could be a symptom of pre-eclampsia as mentioned above, but would likely be accompanied by high blood pressure and distorted vision (seeing lights).
