Hi all

This weekend I got myself a big shiny telly (very exciting!) - this came with Freeview HD tuner built in, however I can't seem to actually pick up the HD channels. The internet tells me these should be availble (link), but they're just not being picked up by the auto tuner.

Does anyone else actually get the HD channels? I'm wondering if it's my block's antenna or if it's actually a wider problem in the area.

Thanks

Did the TV specifically state that it can receive the HD signal directly? It may be 'HD Ready' which means you'll need a Freeview HD box connected to the HDMI slot in the back, which decodes the HD signal to your tv, but not using your tv tuner.
On that note Jeremy, the freeview channels will cut out or have a bad signal until the change over in April next year, They will not increase signal strength until that time. Having an external aerial will cause a better signal and should eliminate any viewing problems. Indoor aerials are not strong enough and you will not be able to pick up all the free H.D channels.

Yes, I can get them all without any problems and without extra boxes. Your aerial might not be up to the job, but maybe see the TV manufacturer will send an engineer to check it out as you should be covered by warranty and there might be a fault in the TV.

Exactly. Therefore no need for extra boxes as some have said, unless you want to start subscribing to sky etc. As it stands you should be getting Bbc 1 hd, itv1 hd, ch4 hd and Bbc hd. The signal here should be one of the best in the UK as one of the 2 antennas (antennae?) broadcasting in hd is crystal palace. The other one is oop north somewhere. May need to upgrade aerial I'm afraid...

Actially, it depends where you are. The Lordship Lane end of Dunstans Road gets no signal whatsoever in parts as the hill the Ladlands Estate is on blocks out the Crystal Palace transmitter.

There may be some help here ......

We have a Topfield with two digital tuners that picks up signals from a loft mounted aerial - pointed to the transmitter ...

Zero hrs contracts must be tough not knowing where or when the next work is coming from.  My position might not be great, but with a bit of sensible weekly shopping, stocking up on best buys etc. one survives and life ain't that bad.
    • I'm trying to find a venue for my daughter's 18th but it's really difficult. Most venues don't want 18th birthday parties. We were looking at Brockwell Hall (The newly refurbed big ol' house in the park) but they want 4.5k for a night which has to finish at 11pm. My daughter tells me her friends don't go out till 11 which I think may be an exageration but I get her point. I'm looking for a bar/club type venue where I can have a DJ till 1/2am and that's about it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
