Carpenter recommendation - Doug Hathaway

Recommended Posts

Doug Hathaway has been recommended elsewhere on this forum, but unlike other EDF tradesmen who haven't always proved particularly impressive (for a variety of reasons), Doug is the real deal. He's done a variety of jobs for us - from building and fitting shelves and cabinets to removing kitchen units and installing new doors. His work looks great (several other tradesmen we've had in have commented on it - usually they slag off each others' work) and is punctual, hardworking and above all just a really nice guy who is a pleasure to be around.

Cannot recommend highly enough - his contact details are: [email protected] / phone: 07748 151682

I?d also like to recommend Doug who has just built some alcove units, shelving and a bathroom cabinet for us. From the initial meeting he was easy to deal with, knew his stuff and showed lots of pictures of his work which was helpful. He turned up in person which was unlike someone else I called from the forum who said he was too busy to come round and I should send pictures and measurements! I?m really pleased with the quality of his work and wouldn?t hesitate to recommend him.

I also highly recommend Doug, who has been a fantastic find for us.

Doug built a wardrobe and a media unit for us. We have found him easy to communicate with and we are happy with the finished product.

Doug is also helping us with some other carpentry jobs around the house after some extensive renovations that have been carried out by a builder.

If you would like to discuss my experience further or come over to look at the end product, private message me.

Hi everyone

Doug + Hathways Carpentry is absolutely fantastic - don't even think about going elsewhere.

Firstly Doug helped us design and build bespoke floor to ceiling wardrobes, across our whole bedroom (photo attached) . They are extremely high quality and light up when the doors open and are my favourite feature in the whole house. Doug is very trustworthy and diligent - he's very respectful and leaves no mess which is incredible.

Secondly, Doug helped us repair a new kitchen which had to be taken in and out several times due to a nightmare with builders and water pipes. We called Doug out in an emergency and he helped repair everything very well. We'll be using Doug again soon to design the rest of the storage and shelving features in our house. Cheers Doug!

    • Hi everyone. I’m currently in the process of buying a house on the Dulwich Estate with ~86 years left on the lease. I’ve found it quite hard to get clear information online about the realistic cost of buying the freehold from the Dulwich Estate. I was wondering if anyone here has experience dealing with the Dulwich Estate and, if so, roughly how much it cost to purchase the freehold. I know it will vary depending on the property, but even a ballpark figure would be really helpful so we can decide whether the purchase makes sense for us. Thanks very much in advance.
    • It looks like a tap for the gas lighting that used to be found in those homes. The little tap would regulate the flow of gas to give a brighter or dimmer lamp. It's probably not part of any gas feed now and you can check that for yourself by following the gas pipework from your meter (which should only run to the kitchen to supply a boiler and cooker). Next time you have your boiler serviced, ask the engineer to have a look for you.
    • Another strong recommendation from me from Peckham Rye area. Paul sent Damian to sort out our tripping sockets. We’d had another electrician come and try to fix it a couple of weeks earlier who was not good, but Damian was extremely thorough and methodical in diagnosing the issue and fixing it. He tested every socket to make sure the problem was sorted. He arrived bang on time and talked me through exactly what he was finding and how the problem had likely come about as he went. Very polite, friendly and excellent value for money. Wouldn’t hesitate to call them again if we need an electrician. Great team,  great service!
