We had a similar problem last year with our old box. Called out a techy who kindly told us there was a loose connection between the rear-speaker pocket projector and the flux capacitor.

This is (apparently) quite common in old Sony sets and it worked out cheaper to buy a new set.

Your plugged-in gadgets (freeview box, dvd player etc.) all have individual volume controls and if they are set low you need the tv volume up very high to hear anything and this produces hiss, you may be able to rectify it by upping the vol. on your boxes and reducing tv vol.

Reasons why TV's Hiss..

Poor or Weak Signal.

TV has gone 'Off Tune' Retune your TV.

Outside Aerial has been blown out of alingment.. Poor Signal... Get Aerial Re-aligned.

Indoor Aerial has become inafective due to new buildings in your area.. Try an Aerial Booster.

Faulty Conponent in set.. Get TV Serviced or think about a new TV.

I personally do not like fireworks, but other do, and I would see no reason to stop other's pleasure. I am sure the local Puritans will object, and there are issues about disturbing wild life with unexpected noise. But I'm in favour of simple pleasures. And many do like fireworks.
