Buildings insurance for block of flats

Hi

I am looking to find out about buildings insurance for residential blocks of flats and compare quotes. The current insurance policy for our estate in East Dulwich is provided by an insurance company which is affiliated to the appointed property management company. As our insurance premium went up recently by a large amount, I'd like to search the market for more competitive quotes before the policy comes up for renewal. Is there any advice on finding insurance brokers who can compare quotes for entire blocks of flats? I understand that the premium is based on the rebuild value of the entire estate. How is this normally calculated?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was in a similar position to you and tried to source cheaper buildings insurance quotes which are arranged by the Freeholder's Managing Agents. Unfortunately the Agents would not consider any cheaper quotes put forward by residents. Maybe it's worth checking this with your Freeholder before you put the time and effort into getting quotes.

    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
