I have an Apple Air which is about a year old but has slowed down considerably in the last couple of weeks. Anybody know why? I used to click on it and it responded immediately. Now it takes its time. Is the honeymoon over?

I surf a lot but I don't download much so I don't have lots of random stuff eating my memory (that I know of).

I am extremely low tech so only grasp the basics. Would be grateful for suggestions from those more knowledgeable (Mockney?).

Hello gigirl, try these!!

You can control what applications start with OS X by going to System Preferences, Accounts, and opening LoginItems.

Here, turn off any application that you absolutely don't need the moment you turn on your computer, like iChat and Skype.

Remove any widgets from Dashboard that you don't use, or remove them all and disable Dashboard entirely.

To disable Dashboard open the Terminal by going to Applications, then Utilities.

Enter the following, 'defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES' hit enter.

Then type, 'killall Dock' and hit enter to restart Dock without Dashboard enabled.

Dashboard can also be disabled with a free application called TinkerTool.

You can turn off unused networking services by opening Sharing, under System Preferences.

Make sure any services you don't need are unchecked: Windows Sharing, FTP Access, Apple Remote Desktop. As a bonus, this will also make your Mac safer.

recent apple O/S's run a disc clean up and remove temp internet files etc. usually at an odd hour of the day, leave the machine switched on overnight or change the schedules.

Hope this is not too techy and good luck Ian

Oh careful.

You'll have all the "sent from a Dell" crowd on your case.

With all their bla-blah-blah i've got more gig or ram. Who need a pretty box blah-blah-blah (whilst they're sitting in a room papered in woodchip and painted in peach vinyl silk) .

Or they'll be on their Android app, posting from their Christmas lunch (in Beefeater) in Picadilly.

Just you mark my words.

NETTE:)

    • End of a wonderful era. We’ve been going since it opened and even started contractions with my oldest (25 year old) son during a lovely New Year’s Eve lunch. Thank you Rod and Tim for some amazing memories.

    • Let's not forget this is the lowest level of local politics. If McCash really thought his defection could trash the Labour Party nationally, and it was loaded with invective and exhibitionism, then that's pretty much the definition of a "hissy fit"! Scooping the Green nomination for DaWN constituency is also going to be a lot harder for a Marxist arriviste than you suggest. There may be a wave of new, younger Polanski-ites that have joined the Green Party of E&W recently, but it's the long-standing, often retired members of the Party that tend to participate in candidate interview panels and bother voting in selections...
