PeckhamRose
I am a Humanist Celebrant but I only do funerals.PM me for details and I'd be happy to recommend weddings and baby naming celebrants. PeckhamRose
Please note, however, that unlike Wales and Scotland, if you are having a Humanist Wedding ceremony in England it is not a legal marriage ceremony in itself. You still have to go to the Registry Office for the legal documentation afterwards (or before). Otta
I get the whole humanist thing, but find it quite funny that people have felt the need to replace organised religion with organised non religion. Jeremy
I feel a similar way, Otta - even though I'm an atheist, I personally feel no need to be a part of some wider ideology.Still, each to their own, freedom of expression and all that. If somebody wants to identify themselves as a humanist, it's no skin off my nose. Otta
Absolutely, freedom of expression. Which is why I have some issues with SOME humanists.Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread, ignore me. jennyh
Ha - you're welcome to hijack! Our issue is trying to arrange some sort of ceremony to celebrate our marriage in front of lots of people who cannot come to the actual legal ceremony...oh and wanting to do something for our daughter. It's a tricky one! Any ideas are welcome :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21368-humanist-celebrant-recommendations/#findComment-513329 Share on other sites

PeckhamRose
By the way, Humanism is nothing more to my mind than being a conscientious atheist. No more, no less. The BHA to my mind is a political lobbying group. Sue
My brother and his partner had naming ceremonies for their children.I'm not sure where they got the last person they used, but she mis-pronounced one of the children's names throughout the whole ceremony! Although apparently they had met her beforehand and talked the whole thing through with her including the names! Jennyh, had you considered just making up your own ceremony and doing it yourselves? It would be very personal then to yourselves and your friends. bluntlaser
I can recommend Rosemary Taylorson who did our wedding ceremony in 2010. - http://www.rosemaryceremonies.co.uk/ She's SW London based & we had our ceremony at Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush.We wrote our own vows and were able to create a truly personal ceremony which was great.
