  1. I can recommend Rosemary Taylorson who did our wedding ceremony in 2010. - http://www.rosemaryceremonies.co.uk/ She's SW London based & we had our ceremony at Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush. We wrote our own vows and were able to create a truly personal ceremony which was great.
  2. Although I can't comment on St Thomas More hall - I have never been in there and am not involved with any of the groups that have used the hall over the years I can see, as others have pointed out that it is a highly emotive subject. However I did feel that I wanted to just say that although it maybe hasn't been dealt with in the best way, I don't think it is fair to cast aspersions over someone's character without knowing all the facts of the situation. I have infact met Father Gerry a couple of times as I work for the homeless charity and day centre in Streatham that Father Gerry helped found 21 years ago and played an active part in until he was moved to St Thomas More at the beginning of this year (I started working there a few months before he was moved to East Dulwich). He truly did amazing work for the charity and in the time he was there helped many vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the South London community so casting him as some miserly character I think is unfair. Hopefully the situation is resolved in a positive way for those of you that are upset/angered by this situation.
  3. We also live on Dunstans Road and the speed bumps are really harm your car however slow you go over them. Agree with all of the above and that something must be done.
  4. personally i love mine and would recommend getting one. yes they are pricey but i use mine a lot. never had a problem with it cutting out or anything. can get my emails on it, use the net, msn and skype. love the apps too. lots of games, train times, ocado shopping and like not having to take both my phone and my ipod when travelling around.
  5. Having been married for all of a week(!) I can really empathise with your thoughts. Our wedding... in the end.. did end up being really fab; we had 70 of our closest friends and family and yes we had a really great time. BUT I have to admit we many many times said that we wished we had just gone off and got married and then just had a big party afterwards. We're pretty relaxed people and we still found it stressful and so expensive. we mistakenly thought our parents would be upset if we just disappeared and did it - boy were we wrong!! And so as good as it was - I'm more excited about actually being married than i have been about the big day & surely that's the point!?! So in short - really think about what you want. Will you regret doing it with no one else being part of it or do you have people who you would love to have as part of your day? I too had a humdinger with my best friend who couldn't make the wedding (we had to rearrange after my husband's mum had a stroke earlier in the year and she said i should have checked wih her first before we agreed the new date - bearing in mind it was the only date our venue, photographer and caterers could all do & at no extra cost!!) but we sorted it out and it's fine... but anyway... i'm sure you'll make the best decision and congratulations!! whatever you decide to do it will be fantastic i'm sure :))
  6. Agree that something needs to be done with this junction. It's very infuriating that everyone assumes that they have the right of way when coming from Carlton Avenue and I too have seen many near misses. Just amazing how many people don't notice the road markings at all!
  7. Hello As others have posted walking is a great place to start and build up your fitness. I've been doing the same, as I'm also trying to improve my fitness and lose weight for my wedding next year. On the recommedation of a friend I recently bought the Running Made Easy book (have a look on amazon - the reviews give you a good background to it) and it's a great resource for the beginner. It has a great beginners walking to running programme which is very easy to follow and it's quite amazing how quickly you can get jogging. It also offers great advice on how you might be feeling when you start (wobbly legs and feeling sick - I've been there!), what to eat before/after a run etc and most importantly it tells you to go gentle! Hope the advice helps and well done you!!!
  8. Is it just packets that you are not getting or your normal post as well? We're on Dunstans Road and have had about 2 letters and one packet in the last few weeks! It's so frustrating as I'm waiting for all my Open University registration forms which they sent three weeks ago. Argghhhhhh!!!
  9. We're on the corner of Dunstans with Goodrich School and we're fine.
  10. yes we went! was good but yes, I agree with you about the headline acts. it was our third year of going and it was definately the weakest in that sense but it did make us go and find out some of the other things though which we haven't done so much of in the past. Have to say I loved Spiritualized, Wild Beasts and Jeffrey Lewis' poetry and of course Thom Yorke (who's the main reason we decided to go in the end!!) and we watched the new Shane Meadow's film 'Le Donk & Scorz-ayz-ee' (hilarious). Always throughly enjoy Latitude festival and def. one of the best out there to go to.
  11. Well after reading the reviews my boyfriend and I thought we'd try it out for lunch today and we weren't disappointed. Great value and really lovely fresh toppings with a fab thin crispy base. I have to say we even preferred it to the Franco Manco pizzas we've had. Do go and try it out if you haven't already.
  12. Would also like to agree with being overcharged on items that are clearly on offer at the shelves but then aren't recognised by the scannin at the tills. It's happened about 4 times in the last 3 months. Very annoying!! I've started to shop with Tesco and Asda as at least their offers always seem to work...
  13. Pommie - Please don't say that about Battersea. I was a volunteer at Battersea (from 2007-2008) working with the cats and their policy is not to put a healthy cat to sleep. They never put a cat to sleep unless the cat is seriously ill. Fortunately most cats get rehomed quickly but there are some that have been there for a long, long time and they wouldn't put the cat down just because no one rehomes it quickly! In regards to when a cat is found, on calling Battersea they will take the cat, check for a microchip and also hold the cat for several weeks in case an owner in that time comes forward before they are put the cat forward for rehoming. Whilst I was there many were reunited with their owner. :)
  14. We're on dunstan's road and often hear the roar of the t*** on his bike and yes our windows shake as well. Last night was particularly bad. Will report the noise also - hopefully if enough people do, something might be able to be done (...well one can dream!).
  15. Hi Jo Sorry to hear about this - happens quite a lot with cat flaps and greedy cats coming in. Plus I'm sure the noise of the builders would scare him off as well. Too many unknowns in his territory. I would suggest maybe moving the cat food away from the usual place to somewhere else in the house to discourage the black cat from coming in, hopefully if he can't see any food he'll go away. (As a cat sitter myself it's quite common to walk in and see some other moggy helping themselves to the food and often moving the food to somewhere else in the house can help - depends how cheeky the intruder is!) The magnet cat flaps are very helpful with this. Also I know there are cat flaps now that can read your cats chip if they are mircrochipped so that stops intruders too. These are especially good if they don't like wearing their collars. In regards to Leo, it would be worth asking your neighbours if they've seen Leo and putting a picture up on here so people can look out for him. There is a chance he's discovered someone else's cat flap! Otherwise, just lots of calling out - hopefully if he's around and hears your voice he'll know he's safe to come home. Best of luck with your search, so upsetting when they go missing. Lucy x
  16. Daniel Kitson usually does Edinburgh I think and he's really good. He's lived around the Crystal Palace area for a long time and definately worth going to see if you get the chance but his stuff does sell out very quickly.
  17. I've been waiting for 19 days for a book to turn up (that should have taken about 2) and various records and cd's that were ordered and dispatched ages ago. We are on Dunstans Road and the post finally turned up today at 2.45pm - just bills and a subscription magazine that should have turned up about 4 weeks ago! When we called the Royal Mail they had a message saying they were two weeks behind due to the strike but to be honest I think the post has been awful for ages. We've had loads of things go missing (the hassle of getting the Royal Mail to sort that out is another matter entirely!!) and it seems to be turning up later and later every day. If anyone could come up with an idea to collectively do something then I'm sure we'd be on board. Just awful not having a postal service you can rely on. Am also going to try the postwatch details that batdog posted.
  18. got to agree with mishadreams. when I was learning to drive a year ago I also stopped to let someone one cross and my driving instructor screamed at me telling me how unsafe it was to do so as someone could drive in to us and that I would fail my test instantly if I did the same on my test.
  19. Hi zephyr Yes i can confirm that the police have been giving those flyers out. We haven't had one on Dunstans Road but friends on Overhill Road have - made me laugh when I saw it. It has a picture of a pumpkin with a big cross through it!!!!
  20. You could also try Battersea Dogs and Cats home. I work with the cats and kittens there as a volunteer so I can speak from first hand experience that they will be well cared for and found good homes. You are right to point out that it's not the best place for cats to be and they will cause problems for the other cats and wildlife around and they will keep breeding!! You can call Battersea on 020 7627 9218, alternatively do PM me if you would like any help sorting. Thanks Lucy
  21. Hey Eddie Have emailed you about this. Look forward to hearing from you. John.
  22. Try the Fujiyama restaurant in Brixton for japanese - www.newfujiyama.com They deliver to SE22 and the food is lovely. They do sushi, ramen and noodles. Not sure what the sushi is like but their yaki soba and their prawn katsu are delicious!
