Please note, however, that unlike Wales and Scotland, if you are having a Humanist Wedding ceremony in England it is not a legal marriage ceremony in itself. You still have to go to the Registry Office for the legal documentation afterwards (or before).

I feel a similar way, Otta - even though I'm an atheist, I personally feel no need to be a part of some wider ideology.

Still, each to their own, freedom of expression and all that. If somebody wants to identify themselves as a humanist, it's no skin off my nose.

Ha - you're welcome to hijack! Our issue is trying to arrange some sort of ceremony to celebrate our marriage in front of lots of people who cannot come to the actual legal ceremony...oh and wanting to do something for our daughter. It's a tricky one! Any ideas are welcome :)

My brother and his partner had naming ceremonies for their children.

I'm not sure where they got the last person they used, but she mis-pronounced one of the children's names throughout the whole ceremony! Although apparently they had met her beforehand and talked the whole thing through with her including the names!

Jennyh, had you considered just making up your own ceremony and doing it yourselves? It would be very personal then to yourselves and your friends.

I can recommend Rosemary Taylorson who did our wedding ceremony in 2010. - http://www.rosemaryceremonies.co.uk/ She's SW London based & we had our ceremony at Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush.

We wrote our own vows and were able to create a truly personal ceremony which was great.

    • I had a leaky toilet cistern and Niko came out the same day and not only fixed the leak but thoroughly cleaned off the years of calcium build-up. His attention to detail was matched by his kind humanity. The result was a completely renovated toilet which has never worked more efficiently as well as 'service with a smile'. MANY THANKS NIKO!!!
    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!

    • "You have no idea why"   To be fair Sue, it's blindingly obvious to anyone who has a conversation with anyone who isn't a Corbyn supporter. And even some who liked Corbyn (like me initially) found him somewhat flaky even at his most popular But let's say you are right and I have NO idea why anybody might not vote for him. They still didn't vote for him. He lost two elections. The second one badly (and strongly predicted but the stubborn old goat wouldn't budge so we we were stuck with Johnson and another 3 million PMs in the 5 years that followed) So even with ZERO evidence, we have our eyes and ears and brains But we do have evidence   https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/27022-their-own-words-why-voters-abandoned-labour
