Hi Berbel

Not sure where you are and how easy it would be to get to, but Piplings nursery recently opened a new branch on the corner of Peckham Rye park (opposite the Herne pub). They have very good reports for the branch in Forest Hill (where my daughter goes and loves it there). They are certainly not the cheapest option, but may have space.

Gumboots nursery on Crystal palace rd is a 'community' nursery which I think means they give priority to local families with most need. As a single parent, this may bump you up the list quicker.

HI ladywotlunches,

I am very near to Peckham Rye park so the Piplings nursery seems a very good option.

I have tried the Gumboots but i have been told twice, in october and now, that there is no space on the waiting list.I never told them i am a single mother maybe i should send them another email emphasising my sinle state.

Thank you.

Hello

Do you need the nursery to be in the local area, or could you consider travelling with your child to your work area and having your nursery based there? I say this because I have had to go with that option because of no availability when I needed it locally. I found the same thing re communication with the local nursery we were supposed to have a place at. Having told work I'd come back in the July and thinking that was all fine with the nursery, they turned around in April and said no places till October. Talk about upsetting. Anyway, I then widened my search based on a friends recommendation and found my nursery. It was the best thing I've ever done. The commute with a very young child can be challenging at the beginning, but I love the nursery we use and having my child so close to me during the working day was very reassuring in the early days as they seem to always have this or that little bug. Plus pick up time was never a worry as he was so close by.

If you would like to know more I'd be happy to chat. Please PM me for details.

    • Missing Cat! 11 months old/ Our friend, Coco, has gone missing. Last seen evening of 31st October near top of Henslowe rd where it meets Underhill Rd in SE22. We know she has started wandering up Friern Rd and further we guess but we imagine she has been spooked by Halloween / Fireworks goings on. She is a grey Siberian mix with some brown stripes down her, very friendly and likes to eat. Please let us know
    • That said, organised displays could be on Saturday before and after and the actual day, and private ones could just not have the loud ones.  It’s all down to accessibility and people caring/not caring
    • The problem this year is that 5th November falls on a Wednesday. So some places will be bringing their "bonfire night" forward to Saturday 1st and some will be knocking it back to Saturday 8th and there'll probably be a few that just go with Wednesday 5th anyway. If you're doing a public display, having it on a weekend gets more crowds. Which basically means a solid week of fireworks.
    • Fireworks in this area do feel totally incessant at this time of year, almost every evening there is terrible noise. I feel great concern for wildlife, pets (I have a senior cat who hates them), as well as people who struggle with PTSD etc. Last year I even had people setting them off in front of my home. Tonight and yesterday evening have been particularly bad. Is there anything we can do as a community to prevent this? What action can we take? Surely we shouldn’t be expected to just put up with it every year for weeks on end!
