I think i've figured out the village curse

It's the name 'Dulwich' as in Dulwich Village

The 'Dul' bit is a bit "Dull" as it were

So I propose they remove "Dul" and go for the following re-brand.

Wich Village

Village of the damned

It says what it is on the tin. It could even be an ironic T-Shirt or a mug to be sold in Pizza Express or Shepperd's.

They could have a Barbara Hepworth sculpture on that shit roundabout in the shape of a giant question mark. And a ribbon strapline underneath saying "Welcome to Which Village. Now fcuk off back to where you're from as the food's just as crap here"

We could also play stupid mind games with the American tourists who regularly stop us in the streets

( adorned with massive cameras and maps of course )

"Hey buddy" they say

"Where can I find Which Vill-age"

"Which Village" you say

" Which Village is it you talk of ? "

Then, sell them some crack or seamed stockings to take home to their sweethearts.

Really, it's all very possible.

NETTE:-S

I think - as the pronunciation is Dul-itch that Itch Village would be more accurate.

Itch is usually defined as a sensation causing the desire to scratch but it is also true that Itch has resisted many attempts to classify it as any one type of sensory experience. (Wiki).

So we have it. A village that refuses to be classified as having only one annoying property and yet causes pimp and parson, sinner and saint, to feel uncomfortable and desire to be shot of it.

In contrast East Dulwich, West Dulwich etc. (or following Nette's nullifying of 'Dul') are preferable. Who wouldn't tolerate an East or West Itch rather than one smack bang in the Village?

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
    • I made sure to set off a few today just to rile you guys up 😇😂 Always looking for something to criticise
    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may  be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
