Help please! Ideal Boiler s24. No heating or hot water. Brrrrrr!!

Hi all,

Help please! Advice or recommendations much appreciated.

Our boiler used to provide lovely hot water (constant) and heating (on thermostat), although for a few weeks now the heating came on a good few minutes after we turned up the thermo dial. Now, it sounds like it will fire up but then fails to. It provided hot water without CH but now we don't get either.

We called a local Gas Safe engineer when we stopped getting hot water. He said it was the fan but when he replaced it, it didn't work so he replaced some other part (I forget which now but he left a small black rubber cap behind). He didn't give me a receipt for the work. The CH and HW worked for one day before packing up again. The engineer says that we need a new pump.

I've done quite a bit of Googling and going mad. We've checked the rads for air and increased the pressure. What else can we do before forking out more ???? What could it be?

Many thanks,

(Cold) Tea

British gas do a fixed price repair ?79 I recall if you take out a one year service contract with them. The one year is I believe ?24.50 a month. This is a useful offer for difficult or expensive repairs but you do end up paying more for the one year cover than you could have otherwise obtained it. Less of a benefit as you have already spent monies on repairs.
Try Billy Hunter. He's a fantastic guy (lots of reviews on this forum). He will probably be very busy but, in my experience, he will always try and advise if there's a way to solve this yourself. I don't have his number to hand but just search on the forum.

    • I think we're probably closest - about 50m from one of the tents - and to be honest it's not that bad. The bass is making the windows vibrate but it's not 'noisy' I've always said the loud music is the least of the issues to me. It's the construction for two weeks before / one week after, the imposing steel wall, the trodden in non-decomposing litter (fag butts, cable ties, vapes, bottle tops, ring pulls) which will cover the entire site forever, the compaction & damage to the grass which takes months to recover, the impact on birds, bats & wildlife of 24/7 lights, the anti social behaviour of so many attendees (p***ing on the streets and in the bushes) and this year the blatant extending of the site footprint, despite previously giving the reason they can't move it is because it's been designed for that location. And hopefully everyone can see this for what it really is - an attempt to win over the local community and set a precedent for four festival days, so that they have a stronger argument when they put in an application for six days again next year.  Southwark state that the money from Gala goes directly to supporting their Events dept, who support "up to 100 free events every year". So what are these free events, and why do we need another?
