There have been rumours surfacing again that the One O Clock Club is about to close. I was unaware of any changes to what was said at the meeting in December, and I have posted on one of the threads that I would check the current situation and then post an update on here. As I thought, there is no change to the situation. The message sent to me by Cllr Catherine McDonald on this matter is pasted below:

- rumours of the One O'Clock Club's threatened closure are entirely untrue

- we're committed to continuing stay and play at lunchtimes in Peckham Rye

- we are still taking forward proposals for Ivydale Children's Centre to take over the running of the lunchtime stay and play in the current site of the One O'Clock Club. Those discussions have not yet concluded.

- we have allocated funding for a replacement building for this service nearby in the park; in the meantime services will continue to run out of the existing building

- there is no change in the situation since the December meeting at the One O'Clock Club

The club may close temporarily in April for the rebuild (the money was allocated from capital funds in last year's budget), however the timing for this has not been set.

Renata

Hi Renata, that is fabulous news, a relief to us all! However I do feel the staff who run the 1 O'Clock Club could be kept up to date and better informed as it was one of them that told me of the closure threat last week. Please can you keep us posted regarding the progress and how long the club will be temporary closed whilst the rebuild happens.

Curmudgeon re "as for to be honest I'm sick of the closing - not-closing One 'O'Clock club conversations" - so sorry to bore you, just ignore the thread if you feel that way!

    • There's quite a difference between going for a run around the footpaths and trying to sit quietly for an afternoon in a wide, grassy area and enjoying the peace & nature. The other two grassy areas in the park are used for sports, and both had barriered trackway running through them. The Parkrun had to be cancelled for at least three weeks, iirc. I'm concerned by your continued reference to "the rye" - the event is held in the park, not on the rye (common). There is a big difference, despite the organisers and council artificially amalgamating the whole area when trying to convince everyone that it's only a small area that is closed off. The railings & gates enclosing the park are a big clue...
    • So have you cancelled your contract with InPost / Yodel now? If so, that's probably caused hundreds of parcels to be stuck in limbo, as they've said to me before that they can't redirect them to a different store. I have a parcel that was refused by you twice, the last time on 5/12, and since then there's been no updates, despite me calling them 3 times. They just say it's being investigated, but if they now can't physically deliver to you then that is obviously the issue. So much for shopping for Christmas presents early, looks like I'll never get them now.
    • I thought I noticed the shop being redecorated the other day when I passed. Also the old Romeo Jones had some works going on, I think
    • Leon came to sort out a lighting issue for us last week.  He quickly diagnosed the problem and gave clear, detailed advice about how to avoid in future.  Would highly recommend him.
