Sue
We haven't been to Surma for a long time, but we ate there last night because Memsaab was full and we would have had a half hour wait.Surma was also rammed, but they managed to squeeze us in at a table which I think was intended for people collecting takeaways! We had an absolutely excellent meal. I had the brilliantly named Chingri of Chittagong, with super large prawns, which was quite expensive (compared to the other dishes) but definitely worth it - interesting and unusual (to me) flavours. My partner had a lamb dish, can't remember which one but he was very happy with it, and we shared a pumpkin side dish, also delicious, and both had pilau rice. They have Cobra on draft, which is quite unusual, so we both had pints of that, and after the meal they brought us unexpected but very welcome complimentary drinks. My only very tiny grump is that I was given Baileys and my partner either brandy or whisky (not sure which), presumably because I am a woman and therefore must like creamy drinks, but hey I like Baileys so I wasn't about to complain :))We will definitely be back, so that we can gradually work our way through the Surma's Selection part of the menu (except the chicken dishes).Very impressed! Sue
I have remembered what my partner had! Is was the lamb Anarly. When he ordered he pronounced it as Anerley, that well known station (and indeed place).I don't think that was correct :))Anyway, he enjoyed it very much :)ETA: This is their menu.http://www.the-surma.co.uk/menu.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/218330-excellent-meal-at-surma/#findComment-1317594 Share on other sites

Sue
Well they have very interestingly named dishes, so perhaps it has some special significance to Surma. It wasn't actually called "Lamb Anarly" - my partner just had the lamb option of Anarly rather than the chicken:ANARLY 7.95Chicken or lamb Tikka cooked with coriander, then delightfully flavoured with fresh spicesI'll ask them the reason for the name next time I'm in there - hopefully soon :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/218330-excellent-meal-at-surma/#findComment-1317863 Share on other sites
